thinking of buying this...advice please

looking at getting my first bike and i saw this at newark auto jumble. It looks tidy but I wouldn't know a good bike if it ran over me.
its registered on a j 1992 plate but looks like earlier red and white colours
I have tried to do a bit of research and I'm pretty sure they didn't do a 1992 in this colour scheme did they? does this matter?
Any advice appreciated as I have no knowledge of these, so would be good if my brother knows what to look for when I take him to have a look at it with me. looks cheap though.

It's a 1987 NSR250 MC16.

I dunno man, older generally means more worn out - especially if its going cheap. On the other hand it might be a solid bike with plenty of life left that's going for a bargain price. Depends on its history, like how many miles have the crank and pistons done? We'd need alot more details on its condition really if we were to help you with the decision on this particular machine.
