Hi folks, I chanced upon a rather cheap MC28 SE which has seized the rear pot.
It has approx 15,000 miles and Full Tyga fairing (road pattern top, GP lowers and GP tail) loads of history since its import in '97
spray job is rattle can black.
It has mint Tyga SS pipes with carbon/kev cans,
It is complete and minimum required to complete is 1 top end kit
I am not sure the value, so help for it in various states so I can decide what to do with it:
1) Do nothing and sell 'as is' requiring top end kit
2) Get running and MoT
3) number 2 + professional respray (Red Honda Britain would be cheapest)
4) nut and bolt strip down to paint, replate and generally 'mint' it up!
I am aware the fact I have no genuine plastics it will never appeal to the collector. It has also done approx 14,000miles in the UK and probably a few winters judging by the condition!
I also realise it is probably worth more in bits but that is against my morals to strip such a rare bike!
Although I do like my strokers, I have owned and ridden virtually everyone in my 'youth' I really want a 996 Duc as a longterm 'keeper' bike.
many thanks people and look forward to your expert advice!
An MC28 will be worth more complete than in bits, especially with a duff motor.
It won't make a premium withouth OEM bodywork, or with a rough paint job either, but without photos no-one's really going to be able to give you a decent estimate.
I would hazard a guess, without seeing it, that if it's tidied up and fixed, you are looking between £2500 and £3500, depending on the quality of the paint and the overall condiditon of the chassis. Mint OEM panels on it will see another £1000~1500 if done well.
Of course, I could be talking out of my ass... again! _________________ Andy.

Thanks got a few photos on my work computer, will upload tomorrow. I have seen the MC28 for sale on the forum, but with oem fairings it was unfair to use as a guide. Also see some of the mega expensive ones on ebay but don't believe the prices!
I had guessed £3.5k for it done up looking pretty, shame last owner decided to mod it and chopped the undertray!
The prices some dealers are getting is ludicrous! Each to their own, who want to pay that kind of money, but it's ended in tears for a few of them... especially when they realise the bikes are nowhere near as "mint" as they've been lead to believe when making their purchase.
There was a mint Repsol SP on here as a private sale some time ago, offered for about £1000 less than spurious dealer prices, and he couldn't sell it. In the period if was for sale, one quesionable dealer sold at least 3 at vastly inflated prices!
Base your expectations on private sale results for sure. _________________ Andy.

I'd say running and MOT'd would get you the best "value" return as long as you do the work getting it running and MOT'd and presuming it does just need a top end.
I'd doubt you'd see an increase in value to match the cost involved in either a full stripdown or just a paintjob.
You might see your money back and a fair bit more if you replace the bodywork with Hong Kong plastics presuming you get a good set, I've see some lovely ones and some real dogs.
There are some dealers asking some big money but I've seen precious little evidence of private sales coming anywhere near those levels.
Then again, if you want a fast few quid PM with a price, I may be interested _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
Thanks for the advice so far, at the moment min expendature to get it running with a years ticket looks like the best option for me. It would make an awesome project bike for someone who doesn't want to 'ruin' a standard example. 300cc with fag packet paint job would suit it to the ground!
