I have the option of buying a 91 honda rs 250 rolling chassis with the idea of fitting a 300 motor to it .
Or buy that f3 chassis and convert my racebike .
RS250 chassis and an NSR300 motor? Blasphemy!
An F3 chassis and the 300 motor? Double blasphemy!!
Should I delete this whole thread or let Andy see it and explode? Steve of course just saw the words "300" and "F3" in the same post and set fire to himself.
On a more serious note the 300's may (do) lack the top end scream that many of us love, however the one I rode did make one hell of a lot of midrange so in a GP chassis it could make a bike that's very easy to ride fast.
Ironic indeed in a '91 RS chassis...........
Though of course a bike that's very easy to ride fast is normally called a 4 stroke.
In my humble opinion the F3 frame is only worth having to say you've got an F3 frame (though that's a good reason), you'll not be able to tell from riding it.
I need a beer just thinking about it................... _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
Depends what F3 chassis too, there are quite a few types.
The RS chassis is a peach though. Anyone who's ridden Toms NF5 knows how stiff and horny that thing is. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
It'd be interesting to see what the 300 motor can make on some wacky fuel _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
It'd be interesting to see what an F3 bike could make on some wacky fuel too. I've took a can to Steve's a couple of times to try and entice him but he says it goes well enough on the garbage Esso pedal as fuel though I'm lead to believe you boys south of the equator can get stuff below 95RON?
Christ, I'd be scared to put that in my (4t, Honda) genny! Does it even catch fire with an open flame? _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
Andy has tried to tempt me onto the wacky stuff too.
I'm sure there would be gains but I don't want to have to alter my heads, ign timing, jetting etc etc to make it work properly after its taken my so many years to get where I'm at on pump unleaded.
The F3 gets used on the road too so being able to stop in any old petrol station and fill up makes it handy too. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
You're right of course, it would be a ton of work just to satisfy a curiosity and you'd have to undo it to use the bike as you use it again. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
Yes i intend to race the bike , i thought i could bring it back to life seeing as it's left in a garage collecting dust .
We can get 100LL avgas here , you get a learners licence for micro lights and permision to buy avgas !
What head volume would be good on a 300 running avgas ?
Seeing as i like to fiddle with the bike i will be raising compression soon and then dyno it afterwards .
The NSR chassis is pretty good, but can start to show it's street intentions when things hot up.
Our old NRS250 (NSR chassis with NF5 motor) was pretty good but the engine and RS/F3 suspension combo tested the frame to it's limit.
The F3 frame is somewhat better. Bigger headstock and some bracing works well.
The RS chassis is, well, just better still.
I have a 300 test mule. Today it's running on an NF5 bottom end, modifed NF5 pipes, different manifolds and avgas 100LL. The ignition and RC valve timing is adjustable, and it fires through RS plugs and caps.
It's running VHM heads so testing fuels is quick and easy. For everyday use the 14.2cc works well. On the blue stuff I started at 13.8cc and now at 13.5cc. It'll rev to 12,500rpm and beyond. I'm at sea level here and it was probably 30+C today. Colder weather at this same altitude would require a bigger volume.
I'm running 2 degree more advance than on 96 unleaded pump gas.
Unfortnuately it's not all cookies and cream as at the end of some tests today I had some electrical problems...........isn't that what they all say? Something to do with making an NF5 into a 300cc. Not just a bolt on.
Thanks Matt ,
i am running 2 deg advance with 100LL and 14cc head volume ( if i remember correctly ) .
Each time i have saved up for vhm heads , i get distracted and buy something for my 300 .
My tuner says that i can run a smaller head volume , I will be sending him my spare motor once i have finished cleaning the casing with the soda blaster .
My bike likes to rev to 12500 rpm , didn't try any higher
I think that i will get the rs chassis for this spare motor , but then it never ends
