MC28 battery

Tue Dec 21, 2010 2:14 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I everyone, i have a question here and need some advice.

My PGM4 battery will run low (that is below 11.7vdc bike cannot kick start), have check charging from coil ok. Even if i change a new battery after half a year or so same thing happen. My friend told me is the distance i travel, too short, less then 10km. So before charging take place i have reach my work place. When ever i have this problem, i'll charge my battery, after charging the bike can start again but after three month or so, problem comes back again.

How can i over come this problem?

I'm using a YT4L-BS 12V3Ah battery, any recommendation?

If i change to a bigger size, will it help?

Thank you.

Battery life can depend on a lot of things, including weather and how often it gets a charge. Use the above post to check the voltage outputs, pretty easy to do with a multi meter across the battery terminals in about 5 minutes, ie check that the voltage does in fact increase with revs and then level off and not go over the prescribed limit, from memory around 15volts.

From your description I think it's likely to be OK and is just use related. If so you can buy a battery tender, which allows easy trickle charging of you battery and maybe do that once a week. Alternatively the light weight battery technology has come a long way and IMHO are now worth looking into. If you go down this track don't buy cheap, as some LiPo batteries are dangerous, someone like Speedcell uses non-volatile cells, so whilst more expensive, they won't melt your butt.
