Many like to stick with the ease an security of the stock 2T pump. Even for racing.
Me, I like to premix, as my bikes only ever get used for serious track hooning these days.
If you're riding on the street then the 2T pump is the way to go. Premix will smoke like a bugger at lower rpm, and you just don't need a 30:1 ratio when you're cruising down to the chippy to try and impress the girls.
The pump is in way, once you've worked on a bike without it you really curse it being there. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
Fontyyy, why stop at the 2T pump with that attitude?
I do totally agree with you of course. I hate clutter on my bikes, and seeing as they spend more time being worked on than being ridden, I like to see them with no unnecessary bits and bobs.
But, going back to is it better.....if you're going to the shops and back, with the odd blast through the twisties then you're probably better off keeping it.
Since I owned my RD200 as a long haired spotty 17 year old all my (2 stroke) bikes have been premix, whether they started that way or not. Back then I just couldn't resist the smell of Silkolene Pro2 on a cold and frosty morning.
Carrying the 2T oil with you in case of a required visit to the fuel station can be a pain in the rear, but you get used to it. Nowadays I don't need to worry so much as I keep 200L of avgas and usually 50L of pump 95 fuel in the shed, so I can mix up a tank before I go out to play.
