Broken slow jet

Tue May 03, 2011 6:33 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Since I had the carbs laying around while I wait for my new pistons to arrive, I decided to have a look inside and clean them.

The carbs were very neat inside. There was no dirt in the bowls, and the jets and emulsion tubes were very clean. Everything is std (although each gasket has a different colour).

However, one of the slow jets broke when trying to remove it (see picture). In fact, one of the two tabs where the screwdriver seats went pop, and the jet did not move. Maybe it was installed with loctite?

I applied some car cleaner spray, and my plan is to leave it as it is...

Hi Javes,

If you want to take it out, find a small torx/multi spline bit which will fit inside the jet, tap it in with a hammer, then heat with a butane torch and then turn it out. Replace with new slow jet.

Or leave it in like you said if the bike runs fine.

Cheers
Mario

Thanks, Mario

I'll check that the engine runs OK and if so, I'll leave it as it is. Otherwise will look for a tiny bit to do as you suggest.
