Depends on what you have done with your bike. On MY mc18:
1. Both seats off
2. Rear fairing off, it can be done in one piece, need to take the little screw from the clamp that sits behind the drivers seat, unplug the tail light, then lift it off.
3. Remove the left and right side fairings. You can leave the front cowl haninging in place.
4.Remove the tank.
5. Remove the airbox, going to need a nice long phillips head screwdriver to get at the airbox clamps.
6. Loosen the carb clamps with said long screwdriver
7. Unplug the TPS (green connector on the right side of the frame facing the front)
8. If your fussy about mess (or doing this in the livingroom!) Then crack the float drain screws. you can see them at the bottom of the float bowl on the right hand side.
Now, if you don't want to remove the carbs from the bike completely, but just access the float chamber, you can leave the throttle cables attached and "hang" the carbs on a suitable support. Just remember to unplug the oil feed lines to the front of the carby. Photograph the positions of the air correction solenoid plumbing, you only have to unplug two hoses to free the carbs. Look and think, it will become clear.
If you do want to remove the carbs completely:
9. Tape a bit of tape or somthing to help you remember which is the top throttle cable
10. loosen the bottom throttle cable and remove it from its bracket, then slip it out of the throttle wheel.
11. Do the same to the top cable, you may need to open the throttle with one hand to get enough play.
12. Remove the oil pump cable,
13. remove the choke cable and lift the carbs out of the boots!
14. Repeat ad nausium!
One you have done it a couple of times (and you will do it more than a couple of times!) it becomes a lot easier and you will work out the best procedure for your bike.
