Which Tyres

Wed Aug 10, 2011 3:21 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I am getting the MC 18 sorted for a track day at the end of the month and need some tyres. What do you guys suggest to use and what sizes are best. I was thinking of Alpha 12s and had a look at the manual and it says 130 rear and 100 front, the bike has a 150 rear at the moment.

R2/4J (Mk1) should be 110/70x17 and 140/60x18
R5/6K (Mk2) should be 110/70x17 and 150/60x18

Stock sizes on all NSR's work better than any over-size tyre in almost every application. Some have successfully run 120/160, but they are also running different rims and are racing.

Every street NSR I've ridden that's run over-sized tyres, and I do mean every one of them, handled like the proverbial bag of brown stuff!

Thanks, I did think 130 was a bit off. Alpha 12s it is then.

The MC16 runs a 130.

It's all in the specification section on the Main Site!

He did put a laughing smiley at the end... but you will have to get use to sarcasm if you stick around here!

Being a Supporter doesn't make you immune either... it just shows that we don't favour anyone in particular, and that we don't just take the p*$s out of only those who don't subscribe. In fact, some of the Ti supporters get more stick than anyone else here, especially those who own lemons! Wink

However, having said all that, if there is information easily accessible on the Main Site and it's still asked about on the forum, you can bet you will be made well aware of it pretty sharpish! So best you get reading, 'cause there really ain't much that you can't find if you look!! Wink

We run Pirelli SuperCorsa SC-2's on our '91 ZXR250 endurance bike. They are very sticky and will last us about 10 hours and pure shagging on a tight 1km course. (only 2 left hand turns so the right sides get worn out long before the left)

We previously ran BStone 090 Pro's because we had an 18" rear and while they lasted FOREVER, the traction left a lot to be desired.

Having seen what the SC-2 offered, we kinda wished we reconfigured the rear to a 17" sooner!

I'm going to fit some SC-2's for mine in the next few weeks for the track.
