Stuck carbs HELP!! SOLVED - Stupidity struck again

Tue Aug 30, 2011 2:42 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Problem Solved!!! ... INCORRECT WASHERS, the washers looked like they seated - but when placing the needle in on its own showed how much bigger the washers are. Now on the search for more washers Razz

Ok found the right (Edit LMAO Apparently not) washers for the needles, (Bunnings, 1/8 brass washers ;n- Edit DO NOT BUY THESE WASHERS) ) fitted them and heres the problem..

First i couldnt get the clip that holds the needle down, to clip back in place -due to the extra height on the needle now.
So i removed a washer, had to apply some force to get the clip in and ended up getting it to snap in place when the slide was closed.
Now the slide wont open, the other carb slide wants to move but this one is stuck tight, obviously i tried to remove the clip i just put in but thats stuck tight and with the slide at the bottom, its difficult to get to.

Im sure i can get the clip out, even if i have to fully open the carbs, but how do you get the clip back in with any washers under the needle? seems there is no room for play here. Wont mention how many im using in case it verges on jetting but its less than 2 Very Happy and i still cant get the clip in without it causing an issue.?

Anyone whos done this please advise what am i doing wrong, or did you have to do something else ie not expect the clip recess to sit behind the "bar" hope that makes sense.

How thick are these washers?

And don't forget you aren't supposed to put washers under needles at all, if the clip won't go back in it just wont and you can't lift the needle that high without modifying the clip (Andy is the man for deft bending of clips).

That was to fit HRC needles with OEM holders Fontyyy... I've never needed to fit washers under stock needles... ever! That's why the clips don't fit.

The danger is if the clips aren't seated properly, the slides can jam fully open. I could never ever recommend it on an NSR.
