broken/cracked y piece,is it a problem?

i have just noticed the y piece that goes into the airbox of my bike is broken,what effect would this have on the running of the bike?

have not got a picture but it is a little plastic tube that goes into the bottom of the airbox,the other ends join hoses that are linked to the carbs

I had one of these that was cracked on my old road bike. I repaired it with some epoxy resin.
Something that I've found to be better for this kind of thing is plastech.
It comes as a repair kit in different sizes. Very good stuff once you get the hang of using it.
Actually, there are two different makes of this kind of kit. Plastex and Plastech.
Both are very good.

Does it have to be connected to the airbox? Can I join the hose from the carbs and solenoids using a generic 3-way joint out of a car's windscreen washer and leave the third bit open to air?? Any help will be highly appreciated.... Thanks!!

Where the 3-way joint plugs into the airbox, there is a little paper filter. If you leave it open to air you do run the risk of drawing excess air and running lean.
