0.5 inch = 12.7mm

Set them to 13mm, place carbs on the side, to remove any play from the float needle, that's when you can take your measurement. As Dave says measure from the mountain surface base out to furthest point of the float.

Have to agree with Fontyyy on this one. The NSR is a metric bike. You can't go measuring things on it in imperial (as demonstrated by NSAAGGHHH), else it either won't work properly, or it will simply break!

A 0.3mm discrepency somewhere else can comprehensively destroy the motor!

Measure fuel economy in imperial... measure old Brit classics in imperial... hell, measure Yank cars and military helicopters in imperial if you have to, but get with the times! Laughing

Thanks for the info Andy I can put up with the mickey taking .
However in my defence I will say that a gap is exactly the same whether you measure it in metric ,imperial ,rods ,poles ,perches .
I did the right thing by asking the question didnt I ? even if I did get my knuskles rapped.

Oh no, definitely different! Wink

For little stuff use mm, for bigger stuff use inches, more biggerer use meters, bigger still use miles, biggest use light years.

That's my opinion anyway...

It's 13mm, anyway!

As I said, the NSR is a metric bike, so measure it in metric. 0.3mm doesn't sound like much, but it can mean the difference between 65hp and zero when the pistons melt if used in the wrong place!

There are also posts, with pictures and diagrams, in the archives... a search for "float" returns two excellent threads in the results on page 2 (one at the top, one at the bottom), amongst many others.

Besides... you're a Brit... you're supposed to be adaptable! If you were American you'd have an excuse! Laughing

Andy.
Thanks for your help and advise, but I now have a much bigger problem that I hope you can help me with.
I checked my MC28 last night and ,to my dismay ,I find it has 17 INCH wheels . Surely this cant be correct on a metric bike.
Maybe it has been retro fitted with wheels from an old englisn classic bike or an american helicopter.
Or could it be a special from Honda [and therefore valuable]?
Is it safe to ride?
Your thoughts ,or anyone elses, will be most welcome.

Keep smiling

No, that's dangerous, and you should throw it into the nearest recycling centre, just to be on the safe side! Laughing

Has it taken you two days to come up with that?! ROTFLMAO
