Just removed the seal and circlip using the Tyga tool but I'm unsure how to go about removing the flapper and shaft. I'll probably work it out in a minute or two, but if anyone knows how to remove it, please share. _________________ MC21 Honda NSR250. TYGA 300 conversion.
Once you've pulled it out as far as it'll go with the Tyga tool then just jiggle and pull the rest of the way mate. There's nothing else besides friction keeping it in there once the circlip and seal are gone. _________________ After years of moaning about immigrants now i am one...
I have a new seal which I got from Tyga, but I don't have a new circlip. Local Honda dealer couldn't locate one for me for an NSR150 and I can't find one on the Tyga site. Has anyone got a part number for these?
That foxed me too a few months ago - the circlip is the same for the MC28 and is listed under that model's OEM parts list on Tyga's site. It isn't listed under the NSR150's OEM parts list. _________________ After years of moaning about immigrants now i am one...
Thanks guys. The local Honda shop got back to me and told me it was an "e-clip". Hopefully it's the right thing, I'll quiz them on the part number if there's any doubt.
So you just pull it out? I tried but it won't budge. What's the trick?
Does the shaft feel loose but is sticking in the valves? Sometimes it needs a little persuasion.
Can you pack some big washers behind the tool to assist on pulling the shaft out further?
If not..........
I gently persuade it by grabbing the end of the shaft in the (soft jaw) vice and tapping the cylinder, while of course holding the cylinder. Be careful to avoid bending the shaft. It's a bit Neanderthal but gets it done.
I made up a spacer that just misses the bump at 2 o clock on the barrel and it gives me some extra leverage with the tyga tool . Did your e clip get damaged ?
If i remember correctly the ones from an engineering shop are too thick to be used and would need to ground down . Can you not reuse your one ?
It was bent during removal. Honda can get them; they are cheap enough to replace.
Update: Setup a vice with soft-jaws today and gave it a fair few whacks with a rubber mallet. It budged after about a dozen hard whacks - you guys are right it did need some persuading, but came out easily in the end.
