Rothmans NSR

Sun Nov 20, 2011 11:51 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi
Sorry I transgressed the rules with my last post apparently..mentioning that auction site. Question is that a dealer in Preston..not sure if I'm allowed to mention names so I won't..who are selling a '92 Rothmans SP. They have it on classified but now have put it up for auction as they 'need the space and cash'!

If anyone has any knowledge of this bike then I would dearly love to hear it. It will probably be way out of my present budget but if it is kosher then I may bid for it.

Thanks
Mike

If its the fastline one then it looks like and SP spec (although cant see the rear shock reservoir in pics) but its definetely not oem Rothmans paint, in fact is not even a copy of it. Looks more like the mc18 Rothmans colours.

Wheels are the wrong colour for a Rothmans SP as well but might not be the original paint either, begs the question why would a low mileage bike require so much paint work?

Because it's not what it appears?

It's £3800 now and I'd say at that point someone is maybe getting stung, £3800 for what IS NOT Honda OEM paint and what looks a lot like Chinese bodywork, that load of "sponsor" decals is very suspicious* and the bolt holes are all wrong.
I'd certainly be driving to Preston to check more closely before parting with £3.8k for an mc21.

*my personal opinion, not endorsed by or anything to do with NSR-World

Hmmm fastline, they dont have a good reputation for being honest. I would go over any bike there with a fine tooth comb and again when you pick it up (if you did buy i)t and make sure what you paid for is what you drive away with.

Hi all i`m new to the forum and this is my first post.I don`t own an NSR 250 yet but i`m taking my time to find the right one.Anyway the reason my first post is in this thread is that i went to fastline bikes on saturday to view the rothmans sp and as you have all clearly stated it`s a dog.
The frame has got measles as mentioned above, the rear shock is a standard R unit not the SP piggy back jobbie.
I have very little knowledge of these bikes compared to you guys but alarm bells were ring and i simply walked away.

Thanks guys. Like I said, the fella from F******E emailed me to say that it was already sold for £6k and that I should be looking to pay at least 5k to 7k for one. I won't tell you any of the other stuff that he wrote about 'honesty' etc.
Made me smile!

I bought my bike from Les and am well happy with it. It's a two stroke though so that is why I'm going to give it a top end overhaul and change the oil seals over the winter, just to be on the safe side.
Be prepared for that twinpop.

This is what good forums are all about.

Thanks again

Mike

mmm £3900 doesn't sound that expensive to me? where are all the bargain NSR's..?
I'd certainly advise caution with F******e though as you certainly can't take their word.
But having said that their bikes are nice and the prices are comparable to other dealers...
just make sure that if you are looking for a specific genuine model you know what your looking at.
... I suppose you could always try importing one and take a chance..... at least with a dealer
you get to look, listen, test-ride and a warranty... and they have to make a profit remember...

I can't understand why the guy said that it was already sold for £6k. Doesn't make sense.

I've heard too many poor reports (rightly or wrongly!) about them to take them seriously.

My RGV is being collected tomorrow and I think that it will be a certain TZR that will sit alongside 'Noodle' in my garage.....unless anyone has another NSR that is in my price range??? ?

Our mates up in preston will feed you with the old "ah sorry that ones sold, but we can get you one just like that in 3 months for £xxx, just leave us a grand deposit and then next ones yours"
Then funnily enough all the ones that are "sold" seem to keep appearing over and over again year after year.

Tried the same with me 18 months ago, little coughing dude assumed everyone looking for a NSR was a bit wet behind the ears. Should have heard some of the old pony he was coming out with. i humoured him before leaving sharpish. Waste of a couple of hours ? not really, could have been an expensive mistake and i pity the unwary who are not so local.

As has been said, they seem to be made to order from the tons of parts they have upstairs from years ago. incorrect parts, all painted by dream machine etc etc.

Be patient, you will find alot better for your money if you keep your eyes open,
