Secret forum rules? Clarification please.

Mon Nov 21, 2011 6:37 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I am not really new here. But I have not been around all that long either.
I have read the forum rules sticky's.
But it seems weird to me that apparently you are not supposed to talk about jetting?
If this is the case can the moderators please let everyone know in the "message board rules".
Also, from time to time other mysterious "rules" seem to get hinted at, but I can't think of any right now.
Oh, yeah, don't mention that auction site??

Can the moderators please just be up-front about these things in the forum rules sticky's please.
Preferably why not as well as what not. But just what will do.

Not trying to be negative or anything. Happy to play by the rules. I just want to know what they are.
Maybe I am missing something?
Please forgive me if I am.
Please correct me if I am wrong or stupid. (or both Smile)

Cheers,
RelativelyNoobDude.

Why can't you talk about jetting?
Well, you can but you cannot state specific jets sizes, because someone threatened court action when their motor went pop as a result of following jetting advice.

I will amend the rules to point this out, there is a setup section in the members area where you may discuss jetting.

Why can't you mention "that" auciton site?
Because of the amount they charge in fees to sellers.

OK, I guess I can go with that.

Except, if I am to be honest, that answer just raises more questions?

But hey, I'm done. Back into my hole,.....O

That puts me right as well, thanks for the info BUT why not have a Blanket Banner stating that the forum, any of it's associates or members are not responsible for any damage or accidents caused relating to advice, tips or recommendations given on the forum. Works for Motor Racing.. i.e. "Motor Racing is dangerous..." etc etc.

That Auction site, well I fully concur with your rulings on that, I am amazed that nobody has got another auction site in competition at lower costs. It's that bl**dy supermarket syndrome that us folk seem to ignore...the bigger they are the MORE CONTROL they eventually have. I know, I'm a small (sic) retailer!!

I'LL GET ME COAT..!

Sorry to stick my nose in!
I think Andy will put us all straight on this but, I think what he objects to is giving free advertising to an auction site that is making enough money through fees that he feels are extortionate.
Remember, He has set aside an area in classifieds for people to advertise their items for sale on there. So he's not being totally unreasonable, as some people seem to be thinking, maybe?
Jetting is something that has been explained as above by Fontyyy many times. Also, now a specific area has been made available for subscription paying members. It would now be unfair to allow jetting discussion in the general access areas of the site.

Other sites use different rules, you can't please everybody all the time.
Unfortunately, not all information or knowledge can be given away for free either. That's just the way it is, no one's trying to be unfriendly or unfair, or even elitist.
Apologies if I've spoken out of turn.

I am, but I'm that much of a nice person I'm failing.

Andy's trying to be fair as well but he's such a Gent* he fails Wink

*you need to post on the PB forum to know what gets switched to Gent by the censor but I'll give you a hint, it's a 4 letter word begining with C, ending in T, with a U and an N in the middle.

I will add my 2 cents worth . This is an elite- ist site , if you don't have a F3 bike then what ever you have can't be beter and is a piece of "scrap ".
You have to pay for any special information , what happened to the brotherhood then ?
There is no usefull exchange of innovative information if you want to improve your bike , just mockery . Threads die off because of that .

Umm- where do i hand in my invoice for the information that i have supplied ?

There is no brotherhood.

I see the rules have been updated in the sticky:

5. Do not, under any circumstances post eВay links OR try to circumvent censored words.

So that clears up which auction site is not allowed to be mentioned? I actually thought it might have been a Yahoo!Japan "deputy" site.
But,.. how do you know what the censored words are?

6. Please do not discuss specific jetting issues in General Discussion. .................O

Why would you try to circumvent words that aren't likely to trip the censor?

We mean don't post e8ay, or e[i][/i]Bay or other such things.

Hopefully the rule will be waved for this post Embarassed

There's no pleasing some people... the 300's have even been given their own forum now, with the creator of them set as a moderator, and asked politely to keep an eye on it to help answer questions. Rolling Eyes

Roy's bang on with the jetting discussion summary, and the reason for the rule has been explained by Fontyyy.

I don't want eΒay mentioned here, full stop! Not by a link, not with a reference, and not even as "xyz on that certain auction site". I have my reasons, and I don't have to explain them to anyone. That's the rule. As already mentioned, there's a specific thread at the top of Classifieds to post a link... it's not like there's a outright ban.

Anyone who doesn't like it here is more than welcome to go somewhere else.

Anyone who has the courtesy to preview their posts will see *'s replacing censored words... I think that makes it pretty clear.

One of the rules actually asks people politely to preview their posts, but most don't. If they can't be bothered to show some courtesy to others and catch poor formatting ([IMG] tags are a classic!) I can't be bothered to have any patience with them on other matters. There aren't many rules, and it's not rocket science.

Most people get away lightly.

There's a lot of crap posted on here too... it's all in the 300 section though so it's not all bad.

Thanks for the clarification Andy. I have to admit, I did wonder WHY you are so insistent on members previewing their posts.
May I suggest that in the "rules" sticky you mention that:
When members preview their posts, they will be able to see any censored words replaced by asterix's.

I'm just trying to get some of this "mysterious" stuff out in the open as I feel it doesn't help the forum at all. And it is a good forum.
Like I say,.... "Happy to play by the rules. I just want to know what they are."
