SUMMARY: tightened oil pump cable, engine ran poorly. loosened it to previous setting, runs fine. unsure if I should loosen it more (to factory setting)
I saw that the adjustment nuts on the oil pump cable had slack. Not knowing any better, I tightened the line (ie forcing more oil in at WOT). I noticed the bike was sluggish at low revs and was engine was dying. Normal for too much oil mixture?
I loosened the line and problem fixed, runs fine now. However, I found that even at the loosest setting, the valve is still much more open than the factory setting. It looks like the previous owner tightened it at the butterly as well. Is this strange?
I'm wondering if I should loosen it even more, to the factory setting. Or should I just leave it be. What's the ideal mixture, how can I check if it's adequate?

I would hazzard a wild guess that the factory setting is ideal...... _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread

One would hope. But I'm hazzardous about resetting the pump to the factory setting as the previous owner went out of his way to make the oil mixture rich. The bike has been modified and raced. No cause for concern?
Maybe the previous owner wasn't very well informed? Maybe the previous owner raced it without a pump, and slapped it back on to sell, and either (a) set it up rich "just in case", or (b) never even set it up at all? _________________ Andy.

I ran my NSR with factory oil pump settings with TYGA Exhaust, JHA Air box cover and HRC Jetting. Never had an issue.
If your using Honda's instructions for setting the pump I would think our okay. THey do know best (that and it's their fault if anything goes wrong and you followed their instructions )
But honestly, if memory serves me correctly, the factory settings are equivalent to around 28:1 (I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong), I ran my race bike with no airbox, dog fight pipes, HRC cards and HRC jets at 32:1 and never had an issue on that bike. So if your at Honda factory settings, you should be getting more then enough oil. _________________ Charles Gallant
