I live in Tokyo but will be going back home to the states for the holidays. I am thinking about what I can save money on by purchasing in america. I have an MC21 and plan on doing some small upgrades/maintenance in the near future. Anything you think is worth bringing BACK to Japan?
Not sure about the OP, but I get paid in US dollars, and I'm getting my butt kicked with the exchange rate.
If I need something in a hurry, I'll order locally, but I can usually source it elsewhere for cheaper...especially larger ticket items. After a while, I've saved enough for another trackday or set of tires.
Roman, keep an eye on Yahoo auctions too. Sometimes OEM parts pop up well below retail.
I've been sourcing a lot of parts for my vehicles (non-NSR) from the US for a while now. I've paid, on average, 1/3 the price I'd pay here in Australia from a retailer. Some of you may remember that I sent my seized NSR300 barrel to the States to get it repaired, with Electrosil being more than double the cost for a replate. Maybe I'm a bad patriot, but I can't understand why parts and services are more than twice the price here. I'm not an economist. _________________ MC21 Honda NSR250. TYGA 300 conversion.
I just picked up bunch of Motul 300V from my wholesale supplier for $10/liter, later while I was talking to some bloke in Australia found out he pays $30/liter for same oil... no reason anyone should gouge the pricing that bad especially considering he can buy it from Amazon for about $15 per liter shipped to AU.
I too use Motul 300V and can get 4L shipped from the US at $54.00. Here locally, it's going for Y13,600 (around $175). 1L of Motul 710 is Y3,600 (around $55).
So even an oil change on a big bike will cost $200+ even DIY!
I tried buying off Amazon once. Wouldn't let me ship to AU. So I tried to get it to ship to a PO box in the states then it wouldn't accept Paypal. I then transferred money to my Visa to try again. Then Amazon refused to post to a PO Box in the US. I gave up on Amazon, they clearly don't want my business. _________________ MC21 Honda NSR250. TYGA 300 conversion.
Keep in mind that Amazon now has "stores" on there selling products. I went through something similar with "Powersport Superstore". I thought I was buying and dealing with Amazon, but got stock with these clowns who clearly shouldn't be selling to the public.
The annoying thing is Amazon don't tell you that they won't sell to you until after you've half checked-out. I really don't like them much. _________________ MC21 Honda NSR250. TYGA 300 conversion.
" We're sorry. This item can't be shipped to your selected destination. You may either change the shipping address or delete the item from your order. "
You're supposed to have a special license to ship certain fluids and aerosols. That's why the HEL Performance brake maintenance kits in the Marketplace are UK only.
I can send them out abroad, and not write the specifics on the customs note, but they still more often than not get stopped and held, or returned. The last was to Portugal, where the buyer insisted I send and it would be OK. As far as I know it's still sat in Portuguese customs some 3 months later! _________________ Andy.

Yes, however Amazon still won't sell you non-fluids either. Seems if you're black, jewish or live outside the US Amazon will not have you as their customer.
