MC21 powervalve? charging? premix?

Mon Mar 14, 2011 3:48 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hey guys

I've been looking for a NSR250 for a while. I've found that seems to be in decent condition but it's on the other side of the country (and I'm in South Africa). I've been grilling the owner with Qs as I can't just go over to see the bike in person.

He's told me - the battery is not charging. Could this be a bad regulator? I've had this problem on a few of my bikes before.

He's been running premix, but only because the previous owner said that he didn't have faith in the oil pump. He says he's been running 20:1. This sounds like way too much oil in the mix, and says that there's a bit of black oil leaking out the pipes. What do you guys think?

He also says that he doesn't know if the powervalve is working or not (I'm not sure he even knows what that is), what sort of question could I ask him to ascertain whether the powervalve is fully functional.

Thanks!

Howzit,

Where does the guy live and where do you live? Maybe I can help you out or someone I know...

I stay in Pta. Also what do you want to do with the bike? I have 3 track nsr's to choose from if you are interested...

Cheers
Mario

Howzit Mario

The guy is in Witbank in Mpumalanga, and I'm in Pietermaritzburg, KZN. So, pretty damn far away! Dunno how close it is to Pretoria, if you knew someone there that could help me out that'd be ace!

The reason I'm quite keen on this guy's bike is that it looks to be in neat, original condition. I don't intend to use the bike for any racing or anything like that (although it'd be great to take it out on a track sometime for fun). I just really am a big fan of NSRs and want one in original colours and original bodywork to keep. So many of the NSRs I've seen on gumtree and junkmail look really shoddy and abused.

This is the ad http://www.automart.co.za/bikes/for-sale/honda-nsr-250r-mc21-1993-id-234590. The guy is asking R16000 which I think is a bit much, but i think he is open to offers.

Look at gear selector sensor cable

the gear selector cable runs infront of the front sprocket and if pulled it could get ripped up with the chain causing a consant earth draining the battery!

For the battery maybe bad regulator (serious problem it can burn the pgm)
Maybe the battery is dead again it can do damage!
or it has some electrical leek in the wire harness!

Premix i use 30 /1

If you open the ignition and push run on you will hear one sound, is the power valve but if you want to be sure look at the front cylinder you will see power valve it has 2 wires when you open the throttle in neutral at 2.000 rpm should move it opens if it is not move then the powervalve didnt work, reason bad servo bad pgm or many too many reasons!

ps the leaking in conection cylinder with exhaust isnt serious problem... dont worry about it! If you buy it we will talk about it !!

20:1 is richer (more oil) than 30:1. The first number is the parts of fuel, the second is parts of oil...

And 20:1 is WAY too much oil for the NSR.

I'm ignoring that thread on the grounds that grown men shouldn't cry.
