ram air

Wed May 25, 2005 9:40 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

hey guys

Andy in the gallery u say ram air 20points. how many put ram air on these bikes? there is not much space to run pipes(air ducts) from the front into the air box area. am thinking of trying it. does it make jetting difficuilt. would build a custom fiberglass airbox with foam filter probably.

any recomendations on the subject.

The only person I know who has actually run ram-air on an NSR is Matt Patterson.

I'm sure he will be along sometime to leave his mark on the topic!

What I can tell you is that a recent enquirey to Jha by a Forum Member about ram-air was unproductive, and therefore finding a bolt-on kit will probably be near impossible. I can also tell you that the system can make setting up rather difficult, and remember Matt telling me once about how a float height adjustment of just 0.5mm at one race was enough to turn a pig of a motor into an absolute screamer!

That'll be why ram-air is worth big points in the Posers League!! Wink

The jha kit flows the air under the front fairing, over the rad and in to the box tht way.

I know that Scott Vorreyer spoke with a guy who's built his own, but nothing ever came of it. Didn't Harc Pro also do one? Matt?

Yes, I think it was a HARC Pro system on Matt's racer.

I did indeed run the HARC ram air kit.

And it's also true that setting became a little tricky after that, but it did make a difference on fast circuits.

At my local (Bira International) circuit it increased top speed from 130mph to 133mph. Longer circuits such as Sentul in Indo would gain as much as 5+mph over a non airbox setup.

Sealing is of course the most obvious, but most overlooked thing on the ram air. The sponge that sealed the box to the tank needs changing regulary, as do other grommets etc to be sure that it's fully pressurized.

Setting up would mean a couple of MJ sizes up on the non box, and as Andy says a float height change of 0.5mm to compensate for the pressurized fuel was also needed.

Not worth a bean in performance for the average, go to the shops road rider, but if you need that extra mojo in the race then it's a must have.

Worth lots of points on the poser charts, so not so much as a must have, more of a necessity.

Will we see ram air on the NSR300 to put it firmly back to the top of the charts where it belongs?
