I've got a reasonable offer for straightening my rear Magtek, 90£, but when the guy heard the word, magnesium, he said that it could crack during the procedure .
There is no one with prior knowledge of Magteks in this country.
The total area is about 10 cm, the edge of the rim bends outwards 3mm and the horisontal part is a bit flat. It looks like the previous owner tried to pry the tyres of with a crowbar.

HI
I fixed magtek rims on my MC18 sp.
My expirience in magteks fixing is with a problem like you in the photo on my front wheel and in Greece a rims expert fixed it perfect but i had only to paint the rim because in the fixed area he warm it to do it safer with no cracks.
My other rim the rear had some cracks on the same area and i went it for fixing to the same person and told me that he can not weld magnesium and the only thing is a special glue for magnesium which i dont know what it is.Finally he fixed it but in the first potholes the fixed area cracked and a large piece removed.
I will never use magteks again in the roads in Greece who have many potholes just only to say i have magteks,it is silly.Only for track use
If it's an NSR Magtek, then there shouldn't be any problem at all as they actually have a very low Mg content. It's just a (clever) marketing ploy.
If it's an HRC Magtek, then it needs considering much more carefully. In fact, personally, if it were an HRC Magtek I wouldn't even bother. It's barely worth the risk on track, and definitely not worth the risk if it were to be used on a road bike.
Pick up an NSR front Magtek in one hand, and an HRC Magtek in the other, and you will soon realise the difference and realise what I am talking about. _________________ Andy.

Its a NSR Magtek and I have replaced it on the SP but then came the thought to make the SE into a SP
How much would a newish Magtek cost ? I do like the original gold colour and a repaired would have to be painted. _________________ Poul

Also, for anyone running RS / HRC mag rims, a word of warning. I have just had some rims stripped and crack tested, prior to chromating & powder coating.
One of the rims, which I bought 'blind' on an online auction some time ago, was cracked.
The £300 (cost to me) rim is junk, but I'd rather know the integrity of my wheels.
For anyone with older RS / HRC mag wheels (which many are > 15 years old), my advice would be to get them checked.
I can supply the company details, the guy is an ex production manager at Dymag and knows his stuff. _________________ Rich

I need my rs wheels repainting, can you send me the details to get them checked and painted? I presume it's quite costly though?.....then again cheaper than a trip to casualty and a binned bike!
Not as expensive as you may think Leigh.

So, has any other people than Stefanos had their Magteks straightened ? _________________ Poul

I've had a front magtek straightened recently, it was only a very minor dip in the rim... but I will check both my magteks for cracks before repainting them... Its quite easy to do yourself using a dye penetration kit (cleaner, dye and developer in 3 aerosols available from any engineering suppliers or through the internet). You need to take care to clean the wheels properly both before and after using the dye to get good results, but its definitely not beyond the diy mechanic. I've seen kits available from about £15...
