In cleaning/stripping my MC21 I noticed this part not properly fastened and was curious to its purpose.
It's part number 11 in the attached picture and bolt number 30 is missing, so it's attached to the swing arm
but just hanging loose.
Anyone know if the missing bolt is a special or can someone give me the bolt specs so I can replace it without
spending 25 bucks and waiting a month?
What you have there is the torque arm. If it's hanging it most likely wasnt put back together properly. This little thing stops the engine from flexing in the frame, and without it you will have very clunky gear changes and will suposedly run the risk of losing your chain. Never seen this happen though.
Are you missing the bolt only or also the bushes etc?
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, however I have got a replacement bolt (no 30 in picture on first post) but I cant find the torque setting for it.
In the parts fiche on ****** Performance (where I got the bolt) it's called "bolt stopper link" but I cant see anything in the Torque Values section of the online manual. There's a couple of possibilities:
Swing Arm Pivot Lock Bolt ?
Swing Arm Pivot Adjuster Bolt ?
It says the standard setting for a 12mm bolt is 5-6 kg-m but I'd rather get it right.
I get clunky gear changes so I tried to see if I had the same problem.
I couldnt see anything at all that looked like the torque arm behind the engine.
Where is it fixed to on the engine and where on the swing arm does it connect to, as I cant see anywhere where something seems missing. I maybe just looking in the wrong place. _________________ Russ

Just below, and behind the centre of the front sprocket. It's secured to the motor with a heafty old M12 (if I recall correctly) bolt... so there's a big old hole in the cases where it should be if it's not there!
The link is secured to the swingarm by the pivot bolt, and fits in the space between the arm and the frame.
Edit: There's a very good diagram of it in the MC28 Service Manual, on page 13-14. _________________ Andy.
