Oil Pump Setting: Quantitative.

Fri Mar 30, 2012 10:33 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

This link on NSR-World (Workshop -> Technical -> Oil Pump) shows how to set the oil pump.

I think the picture is a bit misleading. There are 2 marks on the oil pump cable pulley, and I think that the pictures above (and below) are indicating the use of the wrong mark.
The picture below shows the full thottle setting with adjustment set up to what I will call "Position 1"

This next picture shows the full thottle setting with adjustment set up to what I will call "Position 2"

I believe that Position 2 is the correct setting and gives a Fuel:Oil ratio of approx 37:1

Can someone please confirm this? And please let me know if I am wrong.

Also, can anyone give an indication on where you might set the oil pump for say 35:1 or 40:1 or 45:1 etc.
I am just curious to get an idea of how much the pulley alignment affects the fuel/oil ratio.

I adjusted mine to the full throttle mark.

I've done a couple trackdays at large tracks with that setting and she hasn't blown up yet...that's a good thing, right?

I think you might be right there!

When I started racing, I simply set mine to be fully open when the throttle was - hoping that would be the best for the engine. Sadly it was unable to compensate for my cackhanded jetting on a couple of occasions...

I'm sure you are right there Tuckerbag....at position 2 setting the oil pump lever just begins to open as the carb barrelstarts to rotate, has to be right!...... Great Photo's too.

Well spotted, the pic is correct (and lifted from the Honda Workshop manual) but the text is wrong the throttle setting should say 50% not full throttle.

Three years too late though

the edit on my post is to correct the pic URL's, bikepics changed them all
