MC28 running lights MOT fail, help !

Wed Sep 19, 2012 8:59 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

My MC28 bought earlier this year from a UK dealer supplied the bike with an MOT (yearly safety inspection certificate). This is about to run out and my local 2 stroke specialist who has just adjusted power/valves and done a service etc told me that it won't pass its next MOT in about 3 weeks as it has running lights (the front orange lensed indicators stay on permanently). They flash as indicators when required but apparently according to VOSA (the people who make the MOT laws) they won't pass if on permanently in the UK. Anyone here have any advice as I'm starting to get a little worried. I have previously owned a 21 and the front indicators were normal (just flashed as indicators). Do I have to get this thing re-wired to disable the running lights? Hope you guys can help. Henry.

if your front lights stay on all the time they probably have a 2 filament bulb and an extra wire coming from the indicator like US models do, all you have to do is disconnect the wire. Having never seen MC28 never mind working on it I can't be sure of colors but every Honda usually has Blue and Green wires for indicators, and I believe orange would be the "parking lights" as they call it here. on some bikes each wire is plugged in individually using round bullet connectors and if that is the case you can just unplug the orange wire.

I can do more if you had posted pictures of indicator lights, wires and connectors, it's a simple task if you know what you doing

I have a feeling you just disconnect one of the 3 wires to the indicator.

Unless its a single plug like the one on the front of my MC18, back indicators have bullet connectors

Tom is right, standard mc28 indicators should have three wires...just unplug the positive that makes them stay on, sorry I don't remember what colour it is.

I wonder how many "mint" / "original" bikes still have the correct front indicators?

First chance had today to sort these lights for mot. Yes there are 3 wires with easy bullet connectors. Orange with white stripe on one side and green with white stripe on other. Disconnecting these has disabled the running light function. So mot next week. Thanks for your advice above. Henry.
