MC28 pgm memory card

Sun Nov 18, 2012 1:42 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Does anyone know of anybody who has a spare pgm memory card (or two) they'd be happy to part with.
Standard card would be ok - as I'd have to send away for reprogramming in any case.
Been talking to Drew and looking at Yahoo Japan but I can only see the Hrc one's popping up for silly money.
Thanks
Graham

There have been some cheap ones on Yahoo over the last few weeks. Keep looking.

Sorry about that. Wasn't sure which section to put it under. When you say cheap ones what kind of prices you looking at? The two HRC ones on there at moment are 20-30,000 yen or £180-270 each.

There were two on last week for £150 and one for less than £100.

That sounds more reasonable. Two for £150 or £150 each?
Were they standard cards Steve, or HRC ones?
Out of interest what narrative did you use to search for them?
Finding the HRC stuff is easier as just put MC28 HRC and less than 5-6 pages come up.
Put in NSR MC28 and tons of pages come up. Used Pgm 4 and iv, MC28 memory card and nothing. Even the part number. Maybe simply nothing on there this week. Depends how it translates I guess.

I'll try everything and often look through 50-80 pages. You have to put the time in to find stuff.

A brand new CDI cost $1400 Sing dollars. That comes with a key n 2 cards..
I bought it last year just to keep spare as my current HRC unit with a card is under repairing with Drew.

The problem is the Jap guys have got smart to "outsiders" buying on Yahoo!, and label a lot of standard stuff HRC, counting on both ignorance and the language barrier! I've seen a lot of standard cards with HRC badges on, and there are even just the HRC badges for sale from time-to-time to make your stock card look like an HRC one!

Added to that, there has also been a resurgence in Japanese 2-stroke interest, which is forcing the prices up too. The problem is, the longer you leave it, the more expensive it will get.

Hello Guys..
I've been on the look out for a spare memory card for my MC28. But finding it hard to find one at a reasonable cost.
I'm looking to keep my standard card and find another card coded to HRC P-030 spec

I have a question - If i find another PGM with a card - but only want the card - what options do i have?

If for example i have this card changed to HRC spec and paired to my existing PGM unit, does this make the PGM that came with it useless? Or can one card be changed to HRC spec and paired with two PGM units?
Or did i hear that in order to pair cards to units they will need to have at least one card already paired to a PGM in order to copy?

Any help appreciated and i will mail Drew seperately
Thanks
Graham

There's very little point in keeping the standard card, in my opinion, and once you've run it delimited I seriously doubt you'll ever want to use it again!

I can't see any benefit in keeping a stock card. Remember too, that the setup can vary wildly between the two cards, and also the harness needs a little modification. It's not a simple case of swapping between one and the other once you are set up for the HRC card.

Just go for it. You won't regret it... ask Bully! Wink

Thanks for that Andy – and I agree that I’d run with the HRC card 99% of the time

I was thinking more for two reasons…

First being the potential resale value of a PGM unit having both a standard and HRC card coded to it – they seem to be worth more and more flexible to the user dependent on what set up someone opts for
Second being that if by having a spare unit with both cards – one unit were to go gone wrong then I’d have another unit on standby already in HRC spec to use whilst the other is off for repair.

Then there’s the MOT situation – whereby the MOT centre have to detail the mileage on the certificate etc – which leads me to consider two more questions…

I’m guessing for the MOT that I’d pull up and plug in the standard card to bring up the mileage – then carry on with the HRC card afterwards.
Secondly I’ve then wondered (and discussed with Tom the other day) That if the speedo drive is still connected – but I’m running an HRC card (which only shows the temp etc) – if the PGM 4 still records the mileage in the background?

Maybe you know the answers to this Andy?

On another note (see my recent post re the MC28 air ducts) – when I bring the bike down for setting up on the dyno – do these play a benefit or not?

Cheers
Graham

Anyone care to input on my last post? or have experience of running the HRC card and if behind the scene the mileage clocks up?
