MC28 SP black plastic air ducting

Mon Nov 26, 2012 7:27 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hello guys
Just realised that my bike does not have the black plastic air ducting tube that i presume locates next to one of the lower left hand faring ducts and directs cooler air up towards the air box. My bike runs with Chinese body work at the moment so it's not obvious to see where this would go, or if it would fit etc.

I've seen a couple of these advertised for sale (mostly one piece -but recently in two pieces) and wondered what they are.
My ZXR250 has something similar and this locates from the fairing direct into the bottom of the air box. However not sure where this would go on the NSR and the manual doesn't provide much info on it other than i can see it in one of the diagrams.

Questions -
Do they locate direct into the air box?
Is it an essential piece of kit that without it it could affect the performance?
and if so would i need to get me one of these before i take the bike down to Andy & Steve for them to set it up for me on the Dyno?

Cheers guys
Regards
Graham

From Wikipedia:
Snake oil is intentionally promoted fraudulent or unproven Medicine. The expression is also applied metaphorically to any product with questionable or unverifiable quality or benefit.

Heres a pic of the top half of the duct attached to the bike, it runs from behind the header tank above the sprocket and points in the general direction of the airbox.

It clips through a couple of holes on the inside of the frame spar, the lower part attaches to the fairing and runs from the side vent in the fairing to the upper part. As suggested by NSR Lizard I would guess it does bugger all apart from make it more awkward to remove and fit the fairing, most owners probably binned them for that reason.

If you desperately need a pair I might have some spare in my ever growing pile of mc28 parts. The mc28 left hand fairing has two threaded inserts on the inside which the lower duct attaches to, mc21 fairings dont have them and I would be amazed if the Chinese ones do but you never know. I'm told the latest Chinese stuff is very close to OEM Shocked
