Brake disk rattle can

Mon Mar 04, 2013 4:15 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

My disks centres have got some corrosion on as I'm sure many NSR's have and Im wondering if anyone has made a good match up with the gold centres using a widely available rattle can to bring them back to a standard looking finish?
Thanks, Andy

It's a pretty easy DIY job. I used wire wool (as I have a big bag of it) to clear the corrosion. Mask everything off, put a couple of coats of primer on. Not sure what the pantone is but I'm sure you could get a pretty good match just by visiting a Halfords or wherever. Give it half a dozen coats and let it dry properly

Should do the trick

Check out Greggo's latest post in the Members Builds area. Wink

Careful about painting the mating surface on the back of the discs though. Those and the mating surfaces of the wheel should really be left bare.

I am fine with doing the job its more the off the shelf colour code i was after, just wondered if anyone had done this to their disks recently and remembered the name of the colour.

I will check greggo's write up out now.

Bake them for 20 minutes @ 90 degrees Celcius after the final coat.

Cheers, I sprayed them last night using a platinum from a Nissan colour chart with good results. I had taken before photos and was going to post results but stupid me posted my iPhone down the loo on Saturday night so don't have the comparison.
I haven't lacquered them though and was wondering if this is essential?

Personally I didn't lacquer them, but with only 100 miles on the bike since I did them and no bad weather I can't say if I should or not. There again they will be very easy (and cheap) to respray should it be needed.
