mc28 carb needles

Tue Apr 16, 2013 6:56 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hello all you clever people.

Help. I stripped the carbs on my mc28 and found that the carb needles have different numbers stamped on them.
The right hand one has number J8 MA
The left one J8 LA.
Is this correct and what is the difference between them ?
The left cylinder does sound quieter at low throttle openings [tickover to 1/4 throttle]. Could the two things be related ?

Answers eagerly awaited

The needles are different as standard. One is a leaner needle than the other.

The reason why one cylinder "sounds quieter" at low throttle settings is possibly answered in this post?

Thanks for the reply Stephen
The reason for the inquiry is that I am pretty sure the left cylinder is running weaker than the right [at low revs] and when I found the different needles I though that the needles mayhave transposed at some time. Do you know which needle goes on which side ?

They are correct as per your first post.
