MC21 - Magtek front disc bolts & CBR900 calipers

Tue May 14, 2013 9:02 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi guys - I'm rebuilding an MC21 for a friend and I have a couple of queries.

He's supplied me with CBR900 calipers (and standard calipers) however the 900 calipers have threaded mounting holes, as do the forks, so I'm not happy with tightening them - has anyone else fitted them and did you just get the threads drilled out?
Secondly I need the Magtek disc bolts and fixings but I don't know which model to look up on the parts listings Sad Does anyone know an alternative bolt, washer and nut etc or should we go with Honda fixings - if so can you point me in the direction of the parts list?!

Many thanks, Paul

Why change the brakes?

I weigh 85 kg + leathers and at 200 km/h, at the end of the straight, I can still lift the backwheel with two fingers on the brake. Its physically impossible to brake more than that.

On my FJ1100, the threads stripped from the caliper (it's done 100,000 miles and being an 80's Yamaha needed regular brake cleaning) so I just used a nut and bolt!

You'll be fine to drill out the threads and use a bolt in its place, assuming the new diameter of the hole is the right diameter for the correct brake bolt for the threaded fork.

I would, but I'm sure many more wouldn't!

Thank you for the responses. It seems I can helicoil the Magteks and use a regular bolt without having to use a longer bolt going right through with a nut.
I have looked at some of the SP parts lists but I can only find short bolts. Does anyone know the exact model code or HRC listing that would show especially the Magtek with straight through bolts - I am rebuilding an MC21 but I don't think the owner necessarily bought a Magtek from an MC21 - it's a bit hit and miss...which is not good with brake fixings!!

I spend a lot of time on the Aprilia forums because I have 3 RS250s so it's nice to find like minded people all pulling together to make the hobby fun (especially with so much aggression in the World Rolling Eyes ). Thanks again, Paul Very Happy

The bolt that you need is 6 X 120mm and the OEM code is 90105-KV3-720
This is the diagram.
