Opinions wanted on my MC21SP

Mon May 27, 2013 4:21 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hello all. I picked this thing up a couple years ago for a pretty good price. It appears to have NSR150 bodywork on it, so I'm trying to figure out what to do with it now. I really don't like having non-standard stuff on my bikes, and its not a collector-quality bike, so I think I might go a different route with it. I'd like to find a Rothmans themed tank in good condition, and then go with Chinese Rothmans bodywork. Any input, comments, etc on this thinking? Looking for some opinions Smile

Hi montanamc21,
I like the look, why not just have a rothmans paint job on what you have.
Regards Chinese. Body work, it can be good or it can be bad.
My mate got some last year for his mc21 and the fit was suspect at least.
Good luck.

I think it looks pretty good. Can't tell what front cowling that is from the photo, but the side cowlings look to be MC21/28 and the rear cowling looks to be MC28. Some of the Chinese bodywork is actually really good these days, just depends on which supplier you purchase it from. The one's I got were very much like my OEM one's, the way they fit together, especially how the bottom of the side cowlings fit together. If you're going for the Rothmans look, I would just buy some Chinese bodywork for 5-600 bucks and try and source another tank and have it color matched painted to the Rothmans bodywork that you get as I'm sure that a stock Rothmans tank will not color match the bodywork. This way you will have both looks it you ever want to switch it up.

When I bought Chinese ABS fairings for my bike (R6k Terra) I sent my tank to the guys I bought the fairings off (in Hong Kong) so that everything got painted at the same time and hence, a good match.
There is a post of some peoples experiences with Chinese ABS fairings here.

Whether to go Chinese or original is a bit of subjective thing and really just comes down to the owners preference, which can be infuenced by various parameters.

I'd repaint the wheels to match the paint job on there - I like that, and it's nice to see something different to another (yawn) Rothmans bike.

NSR250s are very rare here in the US, so I am not too worried about seeing other Rothman's on the road! I did get some Chinese bodywork for my RGV250 Pepsi project, and the quality was surprisingly good. That was a couple years ago, so I imagine they are even a bit better now.

Nice collection there, watfordhorn. I had no idea my paint scheme was to be found on other bikes. Can you tell me what you know about it? Like years produced, story behind the livery, etc?

Yes, sure is. I guess its a John Kocinski replica. Just wondering if Honda actually produced bikes with this livery, or if this is custom paint?

John used to give me his takeoffs when we raced two strokes at Willow Springs in the early 80s Smile

Hi Montana man
There is a really good supplier of bodywork ask Leigh,
As for your bike good scheme but ditch that enormous 28 seat unit and get correct 21 hardware,
The body supplier will paint your kit any scheme you want send photo and he does the rest,
nice little bike 21,s rule,
jonmac,

I have had loads of mc21's, none have ever done anything for me, one day I might buy another but right now I am happy with my bendy swing arms. Smile
