I am after a rear head, to replace the offset front unit. Looking on the parts page I see two options 1). part No 12220 KV3 680 or 2). 12220 KV3 830. What are the differences twixt these two different parts. I have an R spec motor. = Which unit do I require? _________________ Hmmmmm!
Ahh, but I would say the emphasis is on the SP motor and the relevant part number corresponding to it!
The 0.6mm gasket has been discussed in detail in a thread only recently, which I suspect is why you have mentioned it?
So, to clarify, use an "R" spec [KV3-830] top head on an "R" spec motor, and an "SE/SP" spec [KV3-680] head on an "SE/SP" spec motor. An HRC 0.6mm gasket is recommended with BOTH conversions, and (probably) essential if you use an "SE/SP" head on an "R" motor!
I'll put my spoon away now everyone's had something to eat?! _________________ Andy.

Andy makes a good point here. That is fitting SP heads to an R motor.
It could get a bit close to the edge if you ain't running top grade fuel. HRC actually recommend avgas for this very application, so if you're pouring low quality juice in then don't expect it to last long.
To be honest, this conversion is probably only best for the hardcore racer who wants the last drop of performance from the machine, and has no problems spending the cash on good fuel and good oil.
But then again, if you aren't a hardcore racer or a serious back lane scratcher why the hell did you buy an NSR?
I m rebuilding my SP motor (read about the seizure herehttp://www.nsr250.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1350) and I m trying to find out what s the best way to do that. The reason I m asking about the 0.6 gasket is that , from what I know of -and please correct me if I m wrong-this gasket prevents detonation as it lowers the compression ratio. The bike has SP barrels and SP heads and I thought it would be a good time to do the centered hole head thing to the lower cylinder too.Thats why I asked if the 0.6 gasket can work with an SP head (in an SP motor).Mu deepest apologies to Andy for my use of the English language and even more to the guys at Tyga who are about to go mad , from ,my questions , as we speak....
Right Dexter, I'm going to rapidly get fed up with you...
DON'T YOU DARE START APOLOGISING FOR ANYTHING!!!
The 0.6mm gasket won't prevent detonation, but will help prevent detonation. If you are really worried because you can only get crap fuel, run an "R" head on the "SP" barrel and this will give you minimum compression, and an HRC 0.6mm base gasket to really go low, but then you start defeating the object of the conversion... unless you just want to look trick!!
Otherwise I would recommend an SP head/barrel combination and a 0.6mm gasket to help prevent detonation. You should still use the highest octane fuel you can get your hands on though. _________________ Andy.

And here comes those important words again.......plug chop.
No point in spend all your time and money on trick bits and then let it all go pop by not setting up correctly.
To get the best power you do actually want to detonate, but only a couple of time a kilometer. But to be able to do this properly you need a detonation counter and a big box of jets.
