Need details about colours/painting on seat cowl

Thu Sep 12, 2013 5:05 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Now that I know that the colour variant of my 1996 SE is "TYPE 2" (because I had ordered one sticker and that made it clear) I am having a difficult time to find a complete sticker set. My preferred parts online shop says they cannot guarantee that if I order all the stickers that Honda will also have them on stock, which would leave me with an incomplete original set. Also, they are expensive enough to make me search for alternatives.
I have contacted 4 English sticker makers, but the response up to now does not make me too confident that I will find a full set.

So I came up with the idea that maybe all the stripes can be painted by a professional painter (I will have to get the bodywork sprayed anyway due to repairs) and that I only need stickers for the "text" (e.g. "HONDA", "250R PRO ARM", etc.) or that I would use the fairing sticker set that one shop offered and have the seat cowling painted.

So here are my questions:
1. Does anyone (who has a 1996 SE with purple tank and fender) know the colour of the "HONDA" on the back of the seat cowling?
2. Does the red area on the seat cowling have a golden line around it?
3. Is the colour of the "PRO ARM" white or grey and is it solid or fading to one end?
I have the original brochure but you can't really tell from it.

Thanks!

And if there are any other ideas how I could put my bike back to the original look of the fairing painting, that would make me really happy!

Here are some pictures I found on the internet.
Not too sure about the red "HONDA" on the rear sorry.

Rear Red HONDA

Hopefully that answers questions 2 and 3 at least.

TuckerBag,

Thanks for taking the time to search the Web for me.

Yes, it looks like the red part on the seat cowling doesn't have a line around it. And it looks like the "PRO ARM" is of a solid grey or maybe silver, that's hard to tell.
Funny enough the "PRO ARM" sticker on the Pro Arm has a different font for the text. This is Honda, they find a dozen ways to "write" the same text on their bikes and brochures. Even the "NSR PGM IV" on the key card is not identical to the same text on the fairing. And they even changed the "250R" from one year to the next. Wink What a mess.

I have tried to contact a dealer here to see whether he has any used fairing parts so I can take photos of them. I am currently thinking about drawing the text stickers in Corel Draw and giving the vector files to a sticker maker but the "feasibility study" is still going on. I am surprised that the MC28 is so rare, I had hoped that one of the readers would just have to look at his bike in the garage to answer these questions.

Oh wow, I have just seen watfordhorn's post. Thank you so much for your offer, I am pretty sure I will need your help!

Your poor MC28 looks pretty battered, I hope you don't leave her like that.

Hi Gepe. You say your R2T is Type 2 and you sorted out the colours. Just to confirm is the Type 2 the Red / White or the Violet / White?

Many thanks

Warning: My SE is a 2T, the colour codes on the frame sticker seem to be reused over years.

I approached this from two sides:
1. I ordered the "TYPE 1" triangle sticker for the lower r/h fairing because Andy suggested so to find out it was not red (acc. to the brochure I have, it should be red because my front fender is purple). => My bike is "TYPE 2".

2. If you don't want to order stickers you can't use, there is a different way, it's all in the parts manual for your model (I found this out after I ordered the sticker but before it got it). See here: http://www.nsr250.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12901 post 7.

As I said, the method to find this out is universal, the result posted here is specific for a 2T.

I hope this is of help.

Photos of MC28 stickers?

Wed Sep 25, 2013 8:07 am » Post: #9 » Download Post

Isn't there anyone with an MC28 who is willing to take a few photos of the "text"-stickers with a tape measure next to the sticker?

The sticker set is no longer available from Honda and the major UK sticker makers either don't have the (full) set or don't produce Honda stickers any longer!

Please help, I will of course "donate" the vectorized files to the forum after I am finished with them.

Update on my quest for a full sticker set:
I finally managed to get hold of almost a complete set of stickers even though they are no longer available through Honda.

Besides others (which can be reproduced from pictures), I would still need 2 photographs of these two stickers:
1. "NSR PGM IV" on the front mask
2. "SE SUPER EDITION" on the sides next to the turn lights.

I would be willing to pay 15€ to anyone with a 1996 model SE who would take two close-up head-on shots of these two stickers.
