MC28 Frame - re-finish / rennovate

Mon Oct 14, 2013 2:03 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi Gents,

I have an MC28 that I am restoring (engine is completed) and now it's time to turn to the chassis.

Has anyone attempted to strip and re-finish the frame on an NSR250 ?

Or perhaps someone can recommend a company that can renovate these types of frame ?

I'm looking for as close to standard as possible, not polished or painted.

All advice appreciated.

Many thanks

Hello Foxy, and welcome to the forum.

One of the guys in the "members builds" forum in the Members section has had a frame stripped and re-anodised, and it looks awesome. He's abroad, but there are companies in the UK who will do it too... I've just not personally seen it done here yet.

When you do find someone, please be sure to share it with the forum, as I am sure there are others who would do their frames and swingarms too. The NSRs are mostly going down the restoration/return to stock [look] route now.

Thanks Andy,

I'll take a look and will certainly share with the forum if I make some progress.

How bad is the original anodizing? Soda blasting will get you some nice results if your anodizing is still in good shape.

Thanks for the replies.

The frame looks to be lacquered, so the anodizing may be good underneath.

It's difficult to tell as the bike was left outside for an extended (unknown) time and the frame looks stained.
