Does anyone know my '93 NX5?

Sun Nov 10, 2013 9:31 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

The Story goes....

I tried to buy it several years ago jointly with a friend but things didn't work out. The bike sold and I carried on with Ducati's and the like, but the RS250 nagged away in the back of my mind (not helped by Frosty having one and not me!)

anyways I sold my last Ducati and the cash was still warm in my pocket when I casually typed 'Honda RS250' into Gumtree expecting nothing more than the last few years fruitless searching...but up she popped again! Needless to say she had financially appreciated but hey-ho everyone was a winner.

Deposit paid and I collected it the following weekend along with bunk loads of spares

So what do I have!? Frame sez 1993, bodywork and airbox looks later. Wheels are Mavic, bit of a bitsa but it is mine!

Anyone have any history on it?

I can't find the early 1993 NX5 seat units anywhere, does anyone have a damaged one I can try and get a mold made?

Plans involve trying to cosmetically restore it back to stock and carry on TD'ing it (sympathetically!)

Can't say I've seen it before, but it looks great, even with the later [mis-matched] seat unit.

While I can't help with info personally, I will say it would be great to see you at our Donington Day next summer, and/or any other meetings we do.

The only time I've seen this bike is on the PB forum as owned by you. Sorry I can't help.

I was offered this bike a few months back, now I think of it, it was probably a year ago. Not sure where I saw it or the history.

I too have a a 93 NX5. Like you I was thinking of converting mine back to 93 spec (it currently has ram air etc). I have the front fairing, tank and 'airbox', but a seat has eluded me. Airtech in the US sell them, but it's pricey to ship over to the UK. I did actually have a 93 seat unit that came with my 92 NF5. I sold it to someone at Fastline about 18 months ago. Perhaps I could email them and see if anything happened to it and if they would sell it back.

I've dealt with Fernando Mendes (ex GP125 racer) before when ordering the fairing's for my NF5. Really nice guy and he might be interested in making a mold.

I think that seat unit ran from 93 - 97 Lee, although it looks almost identical to the 92 nf5 , the 92 one wont fit the nx5, me and johnnymac have tried, i do know that John spoke to Fernando Mendes about making one for his nx5 and i think he said that he could do them. For crasher 76, if you want to contact Fernando, his number is 07958 464872.

The 93 had a different shape seat unit to the 94, which was different to the 95/96. It changed again in 97, but then remained unchanged till the NX5 was replaced in 2001. If my memory serves me correctly. Getting old !

I've got some of the original HRC brochures somewhere. I'll scan in some pictures.

Might be easier to use these

1993

1994

1995

Here is an image of the 1995 HRC paint scheme (although on an RS125). Sorry for image size

Thanks for so much info! Good to see an active forum interested in keeping these bikes alive and out of museums!

These people think they may still have a mold and will email me a photo. I will put up a specific post for it.

Picture of hrc 93/94 would be great to see the factory colour scheme as an idea what to paint it.

Seems the images don't work now. Worked in the preview???

The image of the 1994 bike was from the HRC brochure.

The 1993 HRC paint scheme was pretty un-inspirational, so the '94 one would be my choice.

Agreed... the '94 is classic Honda 250. Would look good if the red was NF5 "neon" red too, in my opinion.

The beauty of the all those schemes is they could be done in vinyl (perhaps with the exception of the tank) including the '94 one. And your right, the 'red' looks awesome when it's flouro!

I've reclaimed my vinyl cutting machine from HEL Peformance now, too! Wink

Big thanks to Dynotech (Basingstoke) for sorting it out and setting the PV on the dyno. Worth 10% compared to setting up by the manual.
