Another Rothman's Blue question

Thu Jan 02, 2014 7:20 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Two questions?

No having ever seen one in the flesh, is the colour flat or metallic?

Does anyone in Sydney have one I could view to match the colour with paint swatches I have?

Thanks neil

Definitely not metallic Neil, been a couple floating about over here in metallic, and it just don't look right, hopefully johnymac will be along soon as he seems to have got the colour sussed.

Rothmans in Australia painted a one off XY GTHO "Rotmans Blue" black in the day for a corporate promo. The colour code for that is Rothmans Blue Y113. Dont know if its the same as the NSR but i would say it would be a good place to start. You can google "Ford Rothmans Blue" for more info. Please let us know how it turns out.

Thanks boys. Yes I'm aware of that GT, I would imagine that British Tabaco was on the case about the right colour. I'll ask my paint supply place if that number means anything to them.

Leviffer750. Hope Joey responds.

A thought? Any forum members live in a country that doesn't outlaw the branding on the packets? If so could some one retrieve one and mail it to me?

What's your aim?

Do you have some Rothmans panels? Or do you have a blank canvass? Are you wanting to replicate an NSR250SP, or a factory bike?

Just buy a Rothmans sticker, and take it to a paint shop! Any good paint shop/factors will be able to custom mix paint (and even make spray cans) to the same blue as the sticker. That's ultimately what you want... you don't want the fuel tank and stripe one colour, and all the logos another!

All the bikes varied, too! Earlier bikes were a much darker blue... both race and street. The logos would even vary from race to race, and from bike to bike.

Unless you're trying to rebuild a (genuine) SP back to a genuine SP, then it really doesn't matter that much, IMHO.

I'm replicating Richg's rs250 Spencer rep.

I will be doing the spraying myself, after doing a Marlboro job on my TZR successfully.

I'm fussy when it comes to reproductions and don't want some blue that's close, I want it correct, that's why a real printed pack would be the best starting point for a scan at the local paint shop.

After a re think I think it would now be best to secure the Rothman's Racing logos first then match that blue. At least the paint colour and logos will then match!

The blue on my Spencer 250 Rep was visually matched from the Minichamps Freddie Spencer NSR500 model (1985).
