Was hoping someone might be able to assist with the dimensions of the castle locking nut on the MC28 swingarm or, alternatively, where I may be able to buy a socket for it?
I've seen them on various websites, but I needed one in a hurry so measured the slots and butchered an old imperial 1/2 inch drive socket. You'll be surprised how easy they are to saw cuts into and work out the unwanted bits. Worked for me nicely, I believe they call it re-cycling!
Hi Jim I bought one online a couple of months ago, a guy here in the uk does them via auction sites only cost about £12, but as stated could probably make one easy enough, I could'nt be bothered!
For disassembly, there are probably many ways to undo that castle nut.
For assembly, the proper tool is a so-called "pivot adjust wrench", Honda P/N 07908-4690002.
This wrench allows you to hold the adjuster bolt with a hex head socket through the wrench while tightening the castle nut with the wrench. The specified torque of 8.0 kgm is only correct when used with the special wrench (it has an offset of ~ 4 cm). If you use a normal wrench one would have to calculate the correct torque.
I seem to remember torquing the pivot bolt, marking it, then torquing the lock nut.
Obviously if your marks no longer line up, you know it's moved.
Simple, but effective.
