Was hoping someone may be able to help. In the engine rebuild section it mentions lining up the dots on the primary drive gear and the crank. I just stripped my engine and I can't see a dot on either the end of the crank or the gear. I want to install my new crank. Is this alignment essential? It doesn't mention anything about it in the service manual from what I can see.

Don't worry about it. Fit the primary gear in any position if you can't see the painted marks. Most have rubbed off by now and they make little or no differance anyway.
