Was hoping for some advice. I started my MC28 on a paddock stand today with HRC ignition and the temperature went as high as 95c after I'd been revving it to 5k or so and it had been running quite a while. Is this normal?
Sounds high to me. In the summer my mc18 is about 75. In cool conditions on slow running it can struggle to get to 65 _________________ Why do things simply when you can complicate them

That is high, but these bikes rely on air flow to keep cool. You were probably working the engine a bit too much with no cool air to keep it balanced. Next time try riding it down the street after a medium length warm up and see if it runs cooler.
In saying that, it's probably worth checking that your thermostat is fully functional. Also take a look at the jetting, has it been rejetted for the HRC ignition? But don't post specifics re. jetting here.
Eventually I suspect you'd boil the coolant, as without forward motion there is no airflow - no fan fitted to the radiator!
At idle, that would take a very long time - if at all. But if you keep revving it you're gonna put more heat into the system than convection can disperse into the air without forward motion...
