Hi all,

Noticed the other week my power valves weren't operating. So, off with the back of the PGM III and I immediately saw the usual culprit - a blown transistor in the PV circuit. From the general gist of it I decided that it was a pretty straightforward job that any automotive electronics technician could perform so I took it down to my local technician. A few weeks later and no word back. So I called in and they said they couldn't track down the transistors. Supposedly they have been discontinued. So they're looking for a suitable replacement transistor...and looking, and looking. Not doing much finding.

So, I am wondering if anybody can give me a lead as to what transistors to use and where they may be obtained? I'd like to see this bike running again and soon, before a crank seal dries out and goes hard, preferably.

If you have any luck let me know if possible. Finally got mine back on the road and no powervalve movement here too. Not sure what caused it as the valves were cleaned about 500k's ago. The bike has been sitting for a few years though.

After googling my poor little hands off I've found a little bit of info. You can either send the PGM to Greece to be repaired or there's this little auction site that appears to have sprung up overnight which has a seller in the US that has the transistors in stock. Are you keen on a group buy which ever way you choose to go?

As your in Oz there has got to be a source nearer to you, the guy in Greece is reasonable I'm told, the man in NZ got his from Japan, "Tuckerbag" he is a member.

Does anybody have a wiring diagram for the PGM, I did try to get some info from Shindengen but no luck.

What's the part number from the US person? For electronics people you can give them the part number and specification and they should be able to find an equivalent.

I think you will maybe find a part number at nsrFREELOADERforum under heading 250 Topics and PGM3 Repair.

NEC 2SA1385 is the part I believe.

Its a $2 transistor. You can buy them on fleebay....shipping will probably cost you more. I'm guessing you can find them close to home. Alternately most electronics stores cross reference to find something similar. Just Google the part number and you'll find the data sheet.

That is correct the only difference is there is a suffix L02 as far as I can see.

Nice post, i'm good at soldering and repairing ecus, it will be nice to get some broken PGM to work,mostly for the old bikes.
I only have the one in the bike, but i seems i have to look for a extra one, just in case.
The working ones are very expensive, maybe we can test with some broken ones.
Another thing i wanted to ask related to the PGM III is the following. I have seen on the net an intermediate interface to connect between the pgm unit and the wiring loom. The brand is Fox Japan and as far i could translate it was for racing use to get full power. Do you know anything of these units?

If buying defective units for repair, know that the printed circuit itself can also be burned, which makes it very difficult to repair even with the right transistors.

When does someone make a circuit that stops the transistors burning, when they shortcircuit? Or even better, stops the transistors from being damaged by a short on the output?

The Fox unit will do the same as the wire splice listed on the main site.

I did mean to look into the idea of fitting a CB between the PGM and the servo, but never quite got round to it...

Ended up buying a second hand PGM3 from a Japanese seller. Glad I did, too, because the PGM3 that was repaired did not work (at least it did not work the servo motor when I tested it). Not sure what to do with the "repaired" unit, I would like to fix it so I can have a spare.

It' must be years since the last time I repaired a PGM unit that only had burned transistors... and I've repaired quite a few.
