mc18 tires

Fri Sep 12, 2014 1:25 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

What tire do people suggest for the rear 18 inch hoop on the mc18?

Mostly spirited dry road riding, a couple of track days, and not concerned about mileage.
Any suggestions?

There is a limited choice for 18 inch rims but Bridgestone do a tyre in that size but it is more sport/touring, the web will give you a better idea.

For future the acquisition of a 17 inch rear wheel would be the way to get a far greater choice of tyres, there are a few wheels usually for sale on the Yahoo Japan auction site and often go for reasonable money, you just have to judge by the photographs the condition as that varies quite a bit, then shipping charges of course, I had mine sent by SAL 2-3 weeks delivery but cheaper.

My rear wheel cost £60 + about the same for shipping etc., so a good wheel for a relatively small amount.

Other than the Bridgestone I'm not sure if there is much choice other members will help to advise you.

Cheers, Dux.

Great to see another Canadian on an MC18! I just picked up a set of Shinko 006 Podiums. They have them in 18" and are inexpensive. http://www.shinkotireusa.com/tire/006-podium

Well they look O.K. but how do they perform, it could be interesting but the "you only get what you pay for" adage springs to mind, for me safety doesn't have a cost and I always fit the best available, that is not to say they are no good but reports on their performance rather than price is the main thing.

I have Dunlop Qualifiers on my 21 and they are very good but a bit vague, I will try a pair of Pirelli's next time.

You pays your money and you makes your choice.

For right now I've got the Bridgestones. They're actually pretty good, but I have a set of MC21 wheels (17" rear) and Diablo Supercorsas ready to go on.

Thanks for the input guys.

Bridgestones? are those the battleax bt45?

Rspec99, do you have many miles on the Shinko's? I read mixed reviews on them, but best to get as many first hand reviews as possible.

I actually have a mc21 rear wheel to go on, but I also have a second bike that I'm leaving as stock as possible. Would be nice to get a good sticky tire for a stock bike.

I appreciate any and all input and experinces you guys have on the 18 inch tire.
