MC21 in Rothmans colours

Tue Dec 09, 2014 9:20 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I have been looking at a few of these and I'm confused as to what the original paintwork looked like

On this pic the gold and red stripes from the fairing don't align with those at the front of the seat, and the same stripes at the bottom of the fairing are curved

and on this one the top stripes are aligned and the bottom ones are straight.

Should the stripes on the tank align to those on the fairing ?

Which/what is correct ?

Cheers

Are you sure that it isn't an optical illusion? They both look the same to me. The angle from which the picture is taken will affect the way the stripes look.

I'm not sure

This pic shows the bottom stripes as straight

But this sticker kit shows them curved

As MarkR says, it's just an optical delusion! The stripes in the side-on photo don't line up as the fairing is closer to the camera than the seat unit. When viewed from a more natural angle (i.e. when standing near the bike, and looking more from above), the lines match better. Also, your brain just "knows" what you are [supposedly] looking at, and compensates.

If the lower decals were cut straight, they would curve the "wrong" way once applied to the curved bodywork. You will also notice the unusual shape of the fuel tank decal, however once on the bike, it runs horizontal.

The best way to get an idea of what I'm on about, is to lay some tracing paper on various parts of your fairing/seat/tank, and draw (or copy existing) lines. When you remove the paper and lay it flat, you'll be surprised at some of the shapes! Wink

I know exactly what you mean Andy. It was just getting it straight in my head having seen so many variations on the theme. I have found a local paint shop that has experience of this colour scheme so Phil is a happy bunny Smile

It's a great colour scheme... I'm in two minds to do my MC21 in it too.
