Hey Guys,
new to the site, I've just picked up my first NSR250. Its an MC18 In need of quite a lot of love. I've Been doing quite a bit of reading on the forum getting ready to restore it. I'm From the Sunshine Coast, QLD, Australia and was hoping to meet some people who might be close by that could point me in the right direction with the best way to source parts (any where locally that may be able to supply parts at a good price or is online the only way to go ) Any help will be much appreciated
thanks Pete

A good starting point is to get a Honda parts guide. Then you can check what is available through a dealer. You might see them listed on your local auction site, but always listed on Japan auction sites. The parts guide on the site covers most item, but I found a few mistakes

Welcome Pete, as it is a grey import to Australia, Honda dealers in Australia will normally not want to even try and help you. There are people that are Australian based that sell parts on the usual auction sites.

What particular parts are you after?

Welcome to NSR-WORLD, Pete.

Always cross-check the part numbers from the Online Parts Manual with either a hard copy of the Honda manual, or an official Honda dealer.

I try to amend any errors as and when they are pointed out, but there's well over 500 pages to verify in total. I believe it's a good reference though, and also helpful as a disassembly/reassembly schematic. Smile

If you post up any part number queries here, there are plenty of members with genuine hard copies of the manuals that I am sure will double-check them for you.

Mentioned above. "as it is a grey import to Australia, Honda dealers in Australia will normally not want to even try and help you. There are people that are Australian based that sell parts on the usual auction sites."

I'm in NZ my Honda dealer was more than happy to get parts for me from Japan. Even gives me 10% discount on parts I buy from him. I have bought lots from them though! I just gave him the part number (I used the parts catalougue on this site. Yes, a few are not right but you can work it out) and he could check against my frame number on the Honda system. If I didn't have the number we just looked at the microfiche on the computer to identify the part.

Parts are drying up rapidly as I check the part numbers in CMSNL for availability. Glad I renovated my MC28 a few years ago.

Good luck with it.

Welcome. You mentioned you need a new set of fairings. I'm actually in need of a piece of the left hand lower as the front corner is broken off. I don't actually want a whole good new one but would be more happier with a crap or badly damaged one that I can cut my missing corner off?

Is there any chance you have a badly damaged mc18 lhs lower?

Thanks Neil (sydney)

Hi Pete
Greetings from Brisbane
I inherited an MC21 a couple of years ago and have had no issues fining any part. Ebay is your best friend - there are a couple of guys in Japan that regularly break NSR250s and list them. Be patient and don't try to make it your every day bike. The hardest thing I had to find was a PGM and now I have 4...........
My biggest tip for parts would be to use the parts diagrams on the site and make sure you know the nuances of what you are after.
Cheers

Also from Brisbane. Congrats on the bike. I've found that Japan Yahoo Auctions is good for parts. You have to use a proxy buying service which is a bit of a rip but still not too bad. Japan Webike isn't too bad for new aftermarket stuff too. In Aus **** and slipstreamperformance have parts or can get parts. Bit exy though. ****** also have exploded parts diagrams with part numbers you can reference. Highly recommend a workshop manual which I got through this site.

Hey Pete,

I too, am rebuilding an mc18, and I am also in Queensland. I have quite a few spares too depending on what you need.

Post some pixies so we can see what your working with!

Cheers,

Andrew
