Help!

Tue Feb 10, 2015 10:22 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I'm new on here so Excuse any daft questions.
I've got an mc21 with frame no:1066342, engine mc16e 1301366
Frame sticker under seat nsr250r9n
It has dry clutch and adjustable suspension with mag techs.
It looks like 1992 bike but the engine number seems later? SP spec but from numbers looks like an SE?

Hello Barkerm01, and welcome to NSR-WORLD.

The sticker on the subframe would suggest 1993 MC21SE... a 130xxxx engine number would suggest an MC28 motor.

It's extremely difficult to find an original bike now. Remember, even the "newest" MC21 is now getting on for 22 years old! It's going to have seen a lot of action over the years.

It's also common for SEs to be retro-fitted with Magteks. It's not unheard of for unscrupulous sellers to search out SP subframes and fit them to non-SPs, and charge more for the pleasure too!

The problem with the frame number is that there's a large crossover area between SE numbers and SP numbers. The only way you may find out what "base" model it is, is by writing to Honda UK. Sometimes they send you back a nice letter confirming the model and date of manufacture.

Having said that, an MC21SP is only an MC21SE with Magteks and limited edition paint! There's no other difference.

OK, so Honda say it's an NSR25R8NJ when it left the factory.

Well, if Honda officially confirm it's an R8N, you have what is probably one of the most desirable models... an MC21SP Rothmans.

If that's the case, and you have a letter from Honda to that effect, then my advise is to get it to a stock silhouette and paint scheme. A Rothmans SP in good condition really can fetch a premium.

So it looks like it has a later engine as Honda quote 1276112 and a different subframe?
