MC16 Stator

Mon Aug 24, 2015 6:43 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi, does anyone out there know how the stator works on the MC16? Just from looking at the stator i cant see which are the exciter coils. I have no knowledge of these bikes but usually the exciter coils are easy to spot as they look different to the others. The wiring diagram just shows three yellow wires coming from the stator which are obviously the supply to the rectifier. So what generates the ignition to the CDI? Pulse generators and flywheel? Any advise would be great thanks.

So it relies on battery voltage and the CDIs?

This is how i understand this stator and flywheel work. A/C is generated by the flywheel and stator windings and sent via the three yellow wires to the regulator/rectifier. This is then rectified to D/C and sent to the battery and ignition switch which in turn supply the CDIs,lights etc. For the CDIs to discharge and send current to the ignition coils to fire the spark plugs they need the signal and obviously at the right time. This is done by the pulse generators and flywheel. A/C voltage is generated in the pulse coils and sent to the CDIs. When this signal is recieved then the CDIs discharge the stored current which is converted back to A/C and sent to the ignition coils. Without the signal from the pulsers the capacitors in the CDIs may be charged but current will not reach the spark plugs, hence no spark. This is probably obvious to most of you when you look at the wiring diagram. Anyway hope this might be useful to someone struggling to understand how it all works. If i have got this all wrong someone please put me right. Regards to all.
