MC28 Front Forks Preload Adjusters Questions

Tue Sep 15, 2015 2:19 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hello NSR250 forum, so i am trying to adjust the preload of my MC28 SE front forks, but i am so confused with the different settings from the "TUNING section" and the "MC28 HRC SETUP MANUAL IN ENGLISH".

In the "Tuning section-suspension" , the HRC recommends to set the SE front preload to 15mm, and this measurement is from the top ring groove to the bottom face of the locknut. I wind the adjusters to 15mm and the adjusters are about 4.5 lines out.

In the "MC28 HRC SETUP MANUAL", the recommended settings for SE is 12mm (3 lines), and 9mm(4 lines) for SP. (From the "Tuning", it mentions that the lines number is the number of lines wound into the fork body on the MC28, NOT the number of lines left showing.) So the "3 lines" in the HRC MANUAL actually means 7 lines out of the fork?? But 7 lines out of the fork also means the measurement is way more than 12mm, since 15mm already has 4.5 lines out.

So these settings are confusing, if the 12mm(3 lines) means 3 lines out of the fork, then the 9mm(4 lines) for SP does not make sense, i dont know which setting is the correct one to follow, a lot of thanks for all the help and comments!

There are four MC28 HRC manuals, and elements differ between them all! Just use whatever works for you!

It's unlikely any HRC "base" setting will actually be right for most in the western hemisphere! Please also bear in mind much of the information was originally sourced and published best part of 20 years ago now. (Or more, in some cases!)
