My MC21SP heats up to 80 - 100 degrees celsius when stuck in traffic and I've been told by a mechanic that I should avoid running the engine once it gets over 80 degrees celsius. When out of traffic the bike cools back down to 50-60 degrees as expected.
My question is whether this '80 degree rule' is correct? Will it damage my engine? This threshold seems quite low as my four stroke bikes run at 100 degrees in city traffic with no problems.
I've searched around and not found much discussion on safe operating temperatures for the NSR (or other two strokes!). If the rule is true that will make life a bit tough as it takes around 30 minutes to get out of the city and onto some open roads!
