MC18 fork spring length.

Mon Feb 08, 2016 9:19 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I'm stripping my forks and have a couple of questions...….
What is the free spring length for a 1988 MC18? Mine both measure 270mm but the only info for NSR springs I can find is a service limit of 287.5mm ( not sure which model that applies to).
The body of the oil valve located at the bottom of the fork, should this knock/push out towards the top of the fork? I want to get the forks rechromed so this needs to come out?
As you can probably tell, I've not had to take forks this far apart before.
Thanks
Rich

Rich, if your'e not up to stripping forks, and you are going to get them re chromed, somebody like phillpots will do the whole job for you, fitting new seals and oil as well as the chroming, works out a little more expensive, but is easiier for those not confident in tackling a fork overhaul.

I've stripped them completely, apart from the oil check valve? Just want know how this comes out. Smile I don't want to damage it by being for hamfisted.
