I NEED A SET OF DECALS! I CAN FIND INDIVIDUAL ONES BUT NO SETS THE SAME AS ORIGINAL.

ALSO,I MAY BE WRONG,BUT IT LOOKS LIKE THERE WAS NOT ONE LAYOUT AS I HAVE SANDED BACK TO ORIGINAL AND ITS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT TO THE 18 EXAMPLE ON THIS SITE!

I've got an MC18 2J that you use as a master to mask up your panels and get sprayed

In the next couple of weeks I plan to embark on the production of decals for my MC21. Once complete, if all goes well, I may consider replcating decals from other models. Watch this space.

What is the cost of a new decal set? Can they still be purchased? What would people consider paying for a set?

OEM decals are not available as a set, they have to be purchased individually and are fairly pricey, some are available and some are now discontinued.

As far as I know no one sells a whole set of decent reproduction decals so if you could make some good quality copies I'm sure you will have a market for them. I have plenty of used Pentax panels that you can borrow, I would buy a set and I know a couple of others who would be interested.

Are you making these yourself?

Yes, I plan to make a set for my 1990 MC21 in yellow and blue. The pattern is the same for most bike from 90 and 91, but they are different colours, which is no problem aat all to recreate. They will be cut from vinyl, so where there is font on colour, like the "RC Valve" by the front indicator, this will have to be layered (I might be able to rebate it in the cut out). Once I have the vectors it should be pretty easy. If you want me to have a crack at the Pentax colours when i am done i would be happy to do so.

Hopefully I should have something to show you in a couple of week. Fiurst priority is putting the engine back in Wink

The trick is to get the layers correct. You only really want a maximum of 2 layers, 3 at most, as even though the vinyl is thin, it soon builds up. I;ve started with an unexpected background colour for some decals before, just so I can "cut out" a higher level rather than add yet another layer!

There are some pics in Si's build thread in the Members area of some decals I cut for him, and I did a full Pepsi TYGA RGV kit for one of the guys on rgv250.co.uk too. That was a pig to do, as the Pepsi logos were so big! Stripes are easy, but logos can get complicated. The RGV needed two different Michelin Men as I recall, as one needed to be on a black/carbon background, and one on a white background, and Si's AFAM logos were multi-layer, but I think came out OK.

Drawing them is the easy part, scaling them to absolutely the correct size and layering them is a bit of a bugger! I'm looking into printing decals at the moment, but I'm away at the moment so no new progress lately.
