I've had a couple of enquiries about NSR150SP specs available in Australia, so here's what I know:
The NSR wasn't exactly the best seller in Thailand due to it being the most advanced bike (stop laughing) available here at that time. But, it was also considerably more expensive than the 'next best thing'. However, the Kawasaki KR150 was the fastest of the bunch and was the hooligan bike of choice for the macho street racer. It was the only 150 stocker to hit 100mph straight off the showroom floor. Tested all 4 on Castrol's rolling road.
Anyway, Honda were left with a shed load of these things cluttering up their hallway, so instead of crushing them, they decided to fob them off on the Aussies.
Asia Pacific Honda only answer to Honda Japan......allegedly, so there wasn't much they could do about it....allegedly.
The one glaring difference is the headlight. The normal Thai spec headlight works for Thailand, as it doesn't really matter if you can see or not. Walking Street (ask Granty) is brightly lit 24hrs a day. The Aussie spec (I think) has the Thai bulb area cut out, and then some dodgy plumber from down under Mastik's a real bulb holder in there.......lovely job!
Concerning other components such as engine spec, carbs, wheels, brakes etc are all identical. Maybe the tyres are different.
I hope that covers most things. If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to ask your local Honda dealer. Or call AP Honda direct on +66-2-............
I thought the flywheel key was alterd along with the right hand top yoke pinch bolt. Or is that just internet talk _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
the only bike to hit 100mph from the factory floor{kr150}?????
the 150sp i have is bog standard and tops out at 185kph,me
being a light rider at 9 and a half stone,is this topic a take
the piss or what???people looking for specs of this bike
should google it,or ask fellow owners
Why would I joke about the performance of a showroom floor NSR150SP?
I used to race a pre-proarm NSR ('94 vintage). It was supplied by AP Honda with their 'trick bits' fitted. I threw it straight on the dyno and it made a whopping 21hp (Dynojet).
Lots of dyno runs later and it was making 39hp (Dynojet) and almost capable of 120mph (193kmh).......almost. That was real mph. If we'd kept the OEM speedo on there it would've shown considerably more no doubt. I was an 9 stone race snake at that time.
As for testing all the 'sport' 150's. This was done at the Castrol (Thailand) Technology centre in Bangkok, using a rolling road. Only the Kawasaki KR hit 160+kmh. The NSR and TZR followed up with 155ish, with the Suzuki RG trailing the field at around 150. This was an industry standard dyno/rolling road, not a Dynojet (pub standard).
When we tested a stock NSR150SP on the Dynojet it too made a measley 21hp as stock. Fitting a pipe added chunks of power.
Also, when I was at Harc-Pro we had the task of preparing the HRC NSR150SP's. This involved us spending a week in a cold and secluded warehouse rebuilding 20 NSR's to HRC spec. No engine mods, just bolt ons. They allegedly made about 30hp in this 'SP race' spec.
Anyway, I'm not the authority on NSR150SP's, but after spending three days sitting in the dyno room while the R&D staff from Honda tested the preproduction model at our workshop I'm guessing that I do know as least as much as the next bloke.
I had an MBX125F with an Allspeed and Ledair kit when I was 17... that would do 105mph! Ask the guys down the pub! _________________ Andy.

Was it a black and red one or the red white and blue one andy?
I put a powerbronze full fairing on my mbx , must have been good for another
10mph! Lol _________________ it wouldn't be fun if it was easy!
My nsr150sp currently does 0mph, since it hasnt been started in atleast 2 years and i pulled the motor out yesterday. Just to get it registered i need to transfer the whole bike to another frame which has a compliance plate since when it was imported it was never registered or even given an import plate. But then i only paid $375 for the bike. The bare frame is costing me more than the bike lol. Oh well i needed something to do on weekends anyway.
Just out of interest do honda sell unpainted fairings for them? Figured id go for a different look than stock and its missing half the fairings anyway. Also is there a guide available for rebuilding the bottom end? _________________ You can't beat city hall, so burn the f@$ker down
by the way is LEK is still having the racing CDI for NSR150SP?or the api racing? im curently using nsr150sp cylinder and ignition system on my nsr150rr, i have a difficulty to upgrade the ignition system to better. i have already email the LEK but don't get answer. the OEM CDI only got 13000 rpm with the OEM tacho (wich is i'm sure not precision, i'm sure it less)...

The fact that we sent a bunch of LEK's CDI's back to him says that they're perhaps not super reliable. I haven't had too much to do with API, but I was asked to try and figure out how to get a fuel injected scooter running with their ECU, but the software was all in Thai so I was struggling. It's pretty trick in that there's a wireless connection so you can program on the fly!

so the rumors is right I've heard about the reliability problem once from my friend.
well all we can do now is wait the good news from the tyga then
quick question, my 150sp has red rims, was there a version that came out with red rims or would they have been painted afterwards? all the fairings etc are the standard repsol colours that usually go with the orange wheels. the red rims dont look so good with that colour scheme, might have to fire up the compressor and get the spray gun out. _________________ You can't beat city hall, so burn the f@$ker down
