mc28 two stroke low oil warning indicator

Sat Apr 07, 2012 10:53 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi guys. Recently bought a bike. Can anyone tell me how the two stroke low oil warning works on the mc28? As tried putting the card in and out a few times hoping to see where the warning illuminates, but didn't see anything. Not wishing to tempt fate I topped up just in case the warning didn't work and I ran out. I put 500ml in the bottle to top up. Any idea how much it holds and what reserve it may have if/when the oil light does come on?

It's been said before, it's all pretty much on the main site.

Light comes on with around 200cc left in the tank.

mc28 oil warning

Sun Apr 08, 2012 9:02 am » Post: #3 » Download Post

Cheers for that Steven. I had a look thru to the bottle before I topped up but couldn't see how much I had left. As for the mc28 oil level indicator how does it let me know it's low? Can I assume either the yellow or red warning light comes on and the word Oil shows on the LCD display? Short of draining out the bottle how can I test it works? I mixed Rock oil synthesis which Tom said it had in, with new Castrol power 2t racing. So should be ok till it's pulled through.

On all the other models, the red light is a combined oil/ignition warning light, so while I don't know for sure, I would expect it to be carried on to the MC28.

As a Ti Member, you can read most of the English Service Manual online, does it not tell you in that?

My personal practice is to top the oil reservoir back up after every ride, that way it will never matter if the indicator works or not... if you ride far enough in one go to use a whole tank of oil, then you deserve a medal... and a VFR800! Laughing

Mind you, I've done more than a few 220+ mile blasts (and they are blasts, too!), but that still won't drain the tank. In fact, I seem to recall after those runs the tank took about 500ml of oil to top back up, but don't quote me on it. My memory's not the greatest at the best of times, and I had a few too many rums last night! Cool

Cheers for that Andy. I'll have a plough through the manual and see what it says.
