this kind of links into something i was going to post. I have a set of Dogfight pipes on my bike so when i stripped the carbs out i found it was on standard jetting which has now made me query if indeed they are dogfight pipes or just cans. I will post some pictures of them later today to see what folk think unless there is a sure fire way of telling.

The point is that every bike is different, and almost every condition is different. What works for one person, in their location, with their setup won't necessarily work for someone else. In fact, each NSR250 motor should actually be looked at as 2x 125's with a common gearbox! This is why the jet and needles/needle positions will quite often differ between cylinders. Confused

The big issue with 2-strokes over 4-strokes is that the exhaust plays a huge part in the tune of the motor... far more significantly than the vast majority of boilers. DogFights are different to Jha, which differ from TYGAs, which differ from Ethos, which differ from stock, which differ from HRC, etc., etc., etc. The differences in the pipes in some cases can be virtually immeasurable to most people, but to the motor it can mean the difference between 1hp and seizure. Shocked

The rule of thumb on NSR-WORLD.COM has officially always been, is now, and always will be, "CHECK YOUR JETTING AFTER EVERY ENGINE-RELATED MODIFICATION". This means even after fitting new silencers, even after fitting new reeds, even after performing a wire-splice. No exceptions.

This is the main reason I do not allow jetting discussion on a publicly searchable forum. People have been known in the past to find jetting specs in searches, apply them to their own bike because it's of similar spec, and them come back bleating and accusing us of bad info! It was a very long time ago (like well over 10 years ago, before even NSR-WORLD), but once bitten, twice shy. One stock MC21SE with HARC Pro's isn't the same as another stock MC21SE with HARC Pro's!

I am confident that those who subscribe (and are therefore happy to contribute to the site) are in my opinion, far less likely to make problems for us, and respect what NSR-WORLD tries to achieve. Smile

As i said here are pictures of my pipes and was wondering if anyone can confirm that these are indeed dogfighter items? My jetting is standard but that is how the bike came to me, i am just finishing rebuilding the bike with some other performance mods and will be adjusting/checking the jetting to suit as recommended by Andy and everyone else with any experience of 2 strokes.
Any info on the pipes appreciated.

Andy

well i hope all the bits im doing, driller airbox, rear head on front, HRC stuffers coupled with the pipes that came with it give it a nice boost. I need to get some advice on carb set up and will get round to that this week. Cheers.

no problem mate and i agree with stephen, they really are good pipes Cool you may need to move the right lower fairing out a bit though as the right hand side expansion chamber is blooming wide.i didnt move mine enough and my pristine pentax fairing was left with a lovely exhaust shape, melted into it Laughing

Funny that. Steve's Dog Fights must've been the same as yours Si.
The ones on my bike tuck in nicely and only require a very small trim of the fairing to clear.

Andyo, you've got the decent aluminium exhaust stubs there too. I was lucky enough to get a set with my pipes. They match the port exit of the cylinder.

Very well made and expensive exhausts.
