20 year old Carburetor floats

Thu Aug 23, 2012 5:48 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Guys

I have a problem with fuel overflowing from one of the carbs. So far I have

Flushed the tank/replaced the filter
Replaced the float needle valves
Adjusted float heights

All seems OK but after a while, engine running or not, fuel comes from the overflow. I swapped the floats themselves and hey presto, the other carb flows fuel from the overflow pipe in exactly the same way. Before I embark on replacing (both sets of floats) do they become porous as I think this is the problem.

Thanx in advance

Phil M

Possibly, or simply damaged.

Not that it matters, if you swapped a part and the fault followed that part, then it must be defective.

Mine leak if I don't keep the bike on a paddock stand.

That could well be your running problem Rob.

Are the float settings out of the box reliable?

Depends how big the box is, how well wrapped they were, how often the box was dropped and if anybody bothers setting them at the factory.

Suggest you set them up before you refit the whole lot and then find out they leak...

I checked the float heights and set them both up correctly (and replaced the float needles). Hopefully the new floats will in fact float !!! AS you say if the fault followed the part, you would suspect that the part is faulty Wink
